| dbmoss56's Full Review: General Reviews of Alltel Customer Service |
I switched to Alltel for my home PSTN service & cell phones in 2000 as part of a "package deal" through my employer for cell service and 2 home lines with dial-up internet service. Everything worked fine for several years until (1) Alltel withdrew from my geographic area as a land line provider (CLEC), and (2) we moved 3 miles to an adjacent zip code. Our Alltel home phone service was "grandfathered", but then somehow my Alltel cell phones and home phones were separated for billing purposes & we received 2 bills each month. I asked repeatedly for the bills to be recombined, but after at least five separate requests over nine months I gave up.
Then the real problems started when I decided to switch services. First, I cancelled my Alltel cell phone account and asked Vonnage to transfer my main number of 20+ years from Alltel to VOIP. After six months of trying, Vonnage gave up and I had to take my "temporary" Vonnage number as my home number permanently. Thanks, Alltel, for "eating" the phone number that my friends around the world knew to reach me.
Now for the adding of insult to injury. A year after canceling all my Alltel services, my old second land line number still has my name and address in the database that the local police use for 911 response. You guessed it! Twice in the past 72 hours I have been awakened in the middle of the night by the local police at my door, responding to a 911 call without any voice response - originating from an Alltel phone number that I DISCONNECTED OVER A YEAR AGO ! The Alltel CLEC Department rep I just spoke with, Jeremy, is "looking into this" because he can't find any record that I EVER had Alltel service for (336) 235-xxxx. Funny, the local police sure think it is my number!
UPDATE: Jeremy at Alltel called me 24 hours later to say they have now removed my name & address info from (336) 235-xxxx. We'll see....
