My Unconventional Top10Oct 17 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line This collection isn't the best works of art out there .... but every DVD collection should have at least 8 of them in it .. Ok, most of you by now are used to reading your typical cliche Top Tens by now I am sure . You know what I mean. The ones full of cinematic masterpieces and what not. Not to take anything away from any of them ( I read a few and couldn't agree more on some ), but when I think of MY Top Ten of all time .... not all of them are your classic works of art ... I went more for the movies I truly enjoy watching. Oh, and there are a few " cliche movies" also ... BUT, a nice mix I think ... sooo .. here they are ... MY Unconventional Top 10 ... 10. "Forrest Gump" / "Snatch" ( TIE): OK, they didn't say we couldn't have ties and bye George I am going to have one. Gump is on many lists I have seen, and rightfuly so. Some can relate to the era's of the film while others can relate to the character. Me? I just see one amusing as well as powerful movie. Snatch you may ask? Such a recent movie on a Top Ten list? Well, i had to give it credit. I was highly impressed. It is a gritty, hilarious ( in a dark way ) movie with excellent characters and plot. 9. " Dazed and Confused" : " Oh, this is a movie for stoner's" you may say. But this was a movie about life for teens in the 70's. Some I have spoken to have said it was dead on, while others have said it overexaggerates. I was an infant in the 70's, so I will go with what I see in the movie. Sheer entertainment. I know every line ... and isn't THAT what a good movie is all about? 8. " The Princess Bride" : So, who doesn't know 3/4 the lines from THIS one? A movie you just have to watch more than once ... never has a movie had such wit. 7. " Return of the Jedi" : So, I am a big dork .. what of it? Yes, I am a fan of the " Holy Trilogy" so at least ONE had to make it. I chose the grand finale. 6. " Young Guns" : " WHAT?!?!?", you say? Can't be helped. A guilty pleasure, if you will. But, I love this Beverly Hills 90210 version of the Billy the Kid story. 5. " The Matrix" : Whoa ... Keanu in the top ten? Well, his acting couldn't ruin the effects and excellent story behind this one. Keeps you wondering what the heck is going on right until the end. Gotta love that in a film. 4. " Bram Stoker's Dracula" : Keanu AGAIN? I am afraid so. Not sure how he gets in some of my favorites. But, he always does. Granted, I am a fan of the story. And many trashed this one. But, in my opinion .... it was well done. 3. " The Crow" : Brandon Lee's only big movie had us wondering what else could have been in this dark movie about revenge. Brutal and grunge-filled, this movie pulls you in with characters you love to hate ... 2. " Braveheart" : Oh, a cliche choice. But, dangit. Can't deny a great film. Mel in a kilt? not my idea of a good film when told about it. But, poor accent aside .... one good film. 1. " The Usual Suspects" : I don't think this one will ever be topped. The characterization and plotline puts you in a trance until the very end. Wondering what is REALLY going on and who on God's green earth Kaiser Soze really is puts you on the edge of your seat and makes you watch because .. well .. you HAVE to know .... |
