I have a dog who likes to urp. We're not sure why and the vet doesn't know why. She just gives the tell-tale wretching sounds, opens wide and lets loose. Therefore once a week, we have stain the size of a pancake to clean up out of the carpet. I clean it up the best I can with water and paper towels, but that doesn't often do the trick. We've kept Oxy Deep spray in the house for along time. Does it clean the stains we dare not speak of? Read on, dear reader...
•• What it is ••
Oxy Deep is a spray-on carpet cleaner designed to remove stains
•• Features and Commentary ••
First it should be noted that this isn't a cleaner in the sense of it being the front line of carpet cleaning. The first step is to remove the excess... whatever... out of the carpet. I usually dilute the mess with water and then soak it up with paper towels. Then the Oxy Deep gets sprayed on to remove any residual stains and smell.
The first thing to notice is the smell. While it technically a bleach derivative, it doesn't smell like bleach. The scent is a clean smell, not too abrasive or chemically. Spraying it on pretty much gets rid of any smell the stain had and when dry, leaves no odor whatsoever.
The nozzle has 3 settings: Off, spray, and stream. Both of them work effectively and having these three settings is nothing new. I use the spray pretty much exclusively, to cover the area affected. The spray gives a nice diameter and a good amount of liquid. It doesn't soak the area too much, but gives enough to let it get to the root of the carpet.
So how does it work? Wonderfully. The spray gets into the fiber and removes the stain. The trick is to spray it on, and then walk away. Don't try to scrub it out, because Oxy Deep is not that kind of cleaner. It's meant to set and forget. So spray it on and then a few minutes later, wipes off the excess. If you use too much, you can get a lot of foam. This is something that happened to me a few times and I ended up needing to dilute it with water. This is easily avoidable - Just don't use much.
After the Oxy Deep has had a chance to soak in, make sure the stain is gone and then vacuum it up when dry. Your stain will be gone and the carpet will smell fresh and clean.
I tried this on dog fluids, kid fluid, and juice of all colors. None of them were any match for Oxy Deep. Using the above methods, I was able to successfully remove all the stains.
The only weak part of the cleaner is clearly noted on the label: It doesn't work well on dried stains. So if you have some mystery spots on your carpet that are older than your first-born, don't bother with the Oxy Deep. It probably won't get rid of them.
It should also be noted that Oxy Deep is non-flammable and non-caustic, but it is not child-safe so keep it locked up.
•• Conclusion ••
Oxy deep is a wonderful solution for the last stage of cleaning new spills. An essential item in this house.
