Stay for One Night and Then Move On

Written: May 15 '01
Pros:Moderate Priced, fairly clean
Cons:Not up to date, service is fair.
The Bottom Line: Only go to a Days Inn for an overnight stay.

Days Inn's are OK to stay at, if you are planning to just stop over for one night. However, if you are planning to spend a long time in one hotel, I don't suggest staying at a Days Inn.

Our family just stayed at a Days Inn in Canada. We were told that it was going to be a great resort type of hotel. I couldn't picture it, but I was willing to try it since we were only staying for a night. We were told that it had a great indoor water park, nice restaurant, and great rooms.

When we got there, the outside of the hotel was cement block that had been painted over in reds and blues. You could tell that it was an old hotel that they had tried to modernize. When we went inside, it was clean. The front desk area was nice and roomy. There were 2 restaurants - one which was closed for the winter and another that had at the most 2 other families at it. The food was moderately priced and there were choices of burgers, steak, chicken, fish, and many kid's meals. The food was nothing to write home about and the service stunk. The waitress was spending more time at the bar talking to other workers than worrying about our service. We finally had to go into the bar to get her to give us our check.

The motel room was very old - probably 40 years plus. It was clean but the decor was still from the 60's and the mattresses were like rocks. The bathroom had a tub which was clean but very old. Tiles were cracked and not repaired.

The indoor water park was really 2 pools with slides. The pools had originally been outdoor pools but they had built walls around the whole motel in order to enclose the pools. The slides were large, but it wasn't a water park. The whole hotel was exactly as it had been when the pools were outdoors and all they had done was built walls and a roof over the area.

We stayed there for one night and the kids had fun in the pool, but really were expecting more based on the "water park" promotion that we had received from the hotel. I am glad we only spent one night there. To have reserved it for a week would have been a disappointment. The price per night was rather high, considering it was off season. We paid about $90.00

All in all, Days Inns are OK for a overnight trip, but think twice before going for a week or more.
