Revenge Raters: Thanks for the Penny. To all others: Thanks for your Loyalty

Having a bigger web of trust will translate into more ratings and more money. But that's only half the story.

Tom: Thanks for the praise, though I can't compete with your output here. Still, I could use (or could have used) the hits. I always find your reviews satisfying and well presented. I'm playing catch up since my 10/5 bug fiasco, but I should be able to keep up now. I even missed the whole EBD thing for the most part. cheers

I look forward to reading & rating more of your reviews, although I have fallen a bit behind! I've had so little time lately for anything!

Your reviews are always informative, and the fact that I get Arrogant Bastard any time I can proves it(I am working on Fred)!!!

Your cigar reviews are the only ones I cheat on, and that's because I had to quit smoking due to my health years ago. But you have tempted me a few times!

Thanks for the mention and keep up the good work!...I will get to ya!

You certainly did your homework! As always, that is a whole lot of information (hence the "4-1-1", I guess...). You may not have intended it to be helpful, but it sure helped me realize how much time I spend here on Epinions ;) Very nicely done.

Though I am new to reading your reviews, they are always very informative and well written. Obvious you put work into them. Always deserve the HRs. Keep up the good writing.

I'm pretty sure that you haven't missed one of my reviews, but I didn't realize that I'd missed 240 of yours. You're certainly in top handful of prolific writers and I doubt that there is a more prolific reader. Thankyou for the pennies too.

Cheers

...was statistics your favorite course in school? If you did not take it, you probably should....

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Had fun with this one. Thanks for letting us in on your introspection.

It was different than the run of the mill stuff....

Keep up the good reviews, and as long as you do not disappear from my alert list again, I will keep reading them all....

you to my WOT along time ago but Ijust saw I hadn't........well, that is now rectified! :)
I've always enjoyed your reviews and found them very helpful..I have even mentioned a few cigar reviews to my husband over the course of time....
Oh well....I guess I should do the same to my WOT..if only my computer were faster..everytime I decide to go through my WOT I get bogged down and give up in disgust..One of these days..

Thanks
Take care

161 of your reviews :) gotta get cracking. Seriously, your stats are really interesting...As for revenge raters...I have had two very recently. One, actually, I was glad to see gave me an NH (I gave her one) and have blocked her so sometimes to get an NH from a person who, imo, shouldn't be read is a good thing! jo

Good point, CeCe. Not too many people hide their WOTs, but this phenomenon is true.

Thanks for visiting!

People With Hidden WOT (Reply to this comment)
by sweetcece
When a person has hidden their WOT, their ratings will not be seen by you. In addition, if you have your content filter set to NOT see people on your block list, you won't see their ratings either.

Just thought I'd pass that interesting tid bit. ;)

Have fun, CeCe

Hello Carol...

Okay... I guess I must confess. I am an Epinions addict. There. I said it. I swear I spend at least 20 or 30 hours a week on this site.

Funny we haven't crossed paths before.

Thanks for your comment, and for reading/rating. I am checking some of your reviews now.....

I wonder too why some read reviews and fail to rate it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts here in this well-written review.

How do you find time to keep track of all of these things you mentioned? You brought up some good stuff.

I guess this makes 195 reviews I've read. I finally have my computer back up and going, and now I have to see what you've done the last two weeks. You'll have to do this again when you hit 1000 on your WoT. Hehe, I hear you on those people who read you consistantly, but never want to add you to their WoT. Oh well. Keep up the great work:)

Tom,

This is the best explanation of the system I have read on this site. I'm sure some of the newer members will find this "most helpful." Great review.

...Very interesting information. I just had the 300th person add me to their Web of Trust. I guess I'll have to take a snapshot and see who my most loyal readers are... shouldn't take too long, with only 136 reviews posted.

Thanks for a great idea and an excellent editorial!

BTW... how many of yours have I read/rated thus far?

Cheers,

You have a gift for numbers: (Reply to this comment)

I have trouble counting my toes and fingers at the same time. I still have a revenge rater and when they rate me "Not Helpful" I go to their latest reviews and give all of them a Very Helpful (even when they suck) just for the heck of it and then put them on my block list...

Unlike some of the other commenters, I don't even want to think about how you compiled all that information. The statistics are interesting to see, but it's probably exactly the sort of thing epinions doesn't want us to know. I hope they don't have to kill you now!
Good luck,

Re: Re: How did you do that? (Reply to this comment)
by jay1051971
Wouldn't it be cool if Epinions developed a tool to do that for you on the site?

I know I would love to see data from my own efforts....

Well.. I tell you what.. Give me a month, and I bet I can get into the top ten of people who have read your reviews.... Deal?

I have been trying out all those spirits you told me about so can't manage to crunch numbers a'tall. OOPS. I forgot that I am awful at math anyways. So, no excuses.

I am impressed that you play numbers and words--and play them very well I might add. Most of us just shine on one side of the brain. That's a half right?

This was a really neat review. I always enjoy your work. No idea how many I've read. I found you pretty recent so prob not any big numbers. Don't know how many of mine you've read, but I know you do read (and my thanks).

Smiles from your math challenged frined who still enjoys seeing those numbers and your words too of course since that is where I hope I shine.

....lucky in that i haven't had the pleasure of being affected by revenge raters yet, as i'm still a bit of newbie, and even though i'm quite strict on rating epinions, i have escaped unscathed. Amazing how you manage to collate all that info, all stuck together in a hugely interesting article. Thanx!

You nearly gave me heart failure. I thought when I saw the title of this you were going to be saying you were leaving.

Thankfully I didn't see any mention of that in here. Phew. :)

Well I will have to catch up to the others. I have added you to my WOT and I also read your reviews. :)

Glad, so glad to know you are not leaving.

Thank YOU. I was very surprised by the number. Teaches me to pay closer attention to the ratings I receive, I guess. I'm glad you found me, and I am glad I found you, too.

Hi dkozin,

I think that's entirely possible. After cookies are flushed or expired, it could be that a repeat visit is counted a second time. I dind't think about that.

Thanks for the tip and for the trust.

Hi Damien!

Since you ask, I counted exactly 50. Which is surely more than the number of your reviews that I have rated (so go write some more anti-advisor advice, darn it!, and be quick about it). If you can't do it, implore some members in your agents of satan brigade.

... I wanted to add that I believe that if the member visits your review twice, say with second visit 1 month after the first one, you will see 2 member reads (but only one rating).
