How to make your own SLIME!!

Oct 19 '01

The Bottom Line This is an easy toy to make and will provide hours of fun.

Now I don't know about your kids but mine LOVE Slime. The only problem is that is gets expensive. Here is a homemade version of the gooey stuff.

What you will need

2 cups white glue (such as Elmer's)
1 1/2 cup water
Food coloring of choice
1 tsp. Borax
1/2 cup water
Glass mixing bowl works best

How you do it!

Mix the glue, 1 1/2 c water and food color until it's not sticky. Separately dissolve the borax and 1/2 c water. Add to the glue solution. Slime will be thick where the two mix. Work into the rest of the solution. You may knead the slime with your hands (be sure they're clean first). Kneading should take approximately ten minutes but is not difficult. If you want a looser, more slimy texture, add a bit more water and knead it in. Keep in mind, thinner slime does stick to clothing and fabric more easily

Please be careful with this homemade Slime. The kids may try to put it in their mouths (like they all do!) but it will make them sick. Also do not let the kids play without adult supervision.

Now for the fun part!

PLAY!

Put a tarp or sheet of plastic window cover on the floor for the kids to play on. That way the slime stays on the plastic and not your carpet. You cold also let them play outside with it but sometimes it ends up on the side of the house…uh huh mine did it!

Have fun! You can store your slime in a butter container (of course without the butter in it) and it will stay gooey for a week or so. If it dries out you can always add a little water and it will get slimy again. If you end up with to many little UFO's in your slime, just toss it and make new!

This may not be the most educational toy but it will let the kids use their imaginations. Don't be surprised it they want to make it a little thicker and begin to make things. This can also be used as a clay.
Have fun!
