Nice review, but it really left me wanting more information.
As has been stated already, the reality is that it is not difficult to get into college if you were homeschooled. Now, it might be tricky to get into Harvard, but by and large it is not that tough.
Colleges are giving more weight to test scores for homeschooled children these days, and the research on how homeschooled children perform in college has changed a lot of the thinking of admissions departments across the country.
The main thing that has come out of a lot of research, that has made colleges take homeschooled children very seriously, is that a child who has been homeschooled, by and large, has learned how to learn better.
I think, quite honestly, that Greatpilgrim alone gives a glowing endorsement for homeschooling.
Cheers!

but I would really like to hear more information and details. What were your personal stumbling blocks to homeschooling? How did your child adjust when (if?) they returned to the classroom?
I am on the other side of the fence. We've had two situations at school where people expected us to "fix" their children's education and social skills, so I would e very interested in how you handled the situation.

I like the Q-and-A format of this review, but you have some inaccurate and somewhat biased info here. For instance, colleges are becoming more and more receptive to homeschoolers, and it is very easy to sign up with an umbrella school that will format transcripts for you if you don't feel up for it yourself.
The words you chose to describe homeschooling in certain places indicated that you see it as "protecting your child from the real world" and not having them face their problems. Well, let me tell you, the "going to school" part wasn't the problem for me, it was the fact that I wasn't learning anything! It was all multiple-choice tests and boring textbooks. Homeschooling has opened a whole new world of learning for me - now I'm reading REAL books and discovering things that really matter in this life, but I also realize that tests matter for college and SAT results are on their way!
I don't school for "eight hours a day." Of the time I do spend with school, my mom spends maybe one hour of it with me. It's not necessarily a fulltime thing.
I apologize for rambling...I can do that. Yes, homeschooling isn't easy...but it also isn't the impossible task you might think.
