The Bottom Line A third installment of random thoughts.
You know, I really do mean to contribute regularly but senior year of college sucks, so I guess I'm done with promises to you guys. Anyways, I'm back with another little editorial style rant about what's going on in the music business...and even one or two things about what's going down on Epinions. * I'm really disappointed there's no reviews up at all for Black Crowes concerts on this site. At the moment they are doing what looks to be (from setlists at blackcrowes.com at least) a BADASS tour, and no one's going? This after a stellar album released back in May (Lions)! Come on people. I'll end this streak early next month after I spend October 30 and 31 watching this band wreck the Orpheum here in Boston. * Hmmm, 4 years later and another Jane's Addiction reunion tour. Ticket prices are/were $50. My brother is the biggest Jane's fan there is and he was SO disappointed in the show they put on. 75 minutes and no Been Caught Stealin. Come on guys, A)play longer and B)if you're only gonna play 75 minutes and charge $50, how do you not play one of your best songs (hit or not)? * I watched Sum 41 on the new MTV show Jammed this past weekend. I don't particularly LOVE Sum 41 or anything, but they might be the funniest band to come along in a LONG time. The 80s clothes, the big smiles, the constant goofing around, they deserve what's coming to them. * YAWN...Michael Jackson is back...does anyone care? Anyone? I didn't think so...MJ is by far the biggest loser in the music business since rock and roll came along in the 50s. * My boys Pearl Jam played two new songs at the annual Bridge School Benefit over this weekend, and play the Groundworks concert tonight in Seattle. They even whipped out Low Light (never performed live until then) at Bridge. For those of you who didn't go (myself included), you might be saddened to know that they won't be touring again til 2003. * R.E.M. has gone so far downhill it's not even funny...that new album of theirs (released in June) is absolutely terrible. * Meanwhile, I'm blown away by how good the Staind disc is, and am quite surprised at how much P.O.D.'s new disc rocks. Maybe I misjudged these two bands. * Michelle Branch is by far the hottest female in pop music right now. * Kind of late, but full condolences to Smashmouth singer Steve Harwell on the loss of his 8 month old infant son back in July. * Damn Catch 22 to hell for playing a show here this weekend when I really have no money to go...I've been waiting so long for them to come back here, and now not being able to go see them is almost enough to make me want to cry...seriously. * That new System of a Down song rules...might be the best metal song I've heard in 3 or 4 years. * Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that The Who is the best live band of the 20th century after that amazing set Saturday night at MSG? * OK, so I realize that at the moment they are huge, but was there REALLY any need for a movie with two of the guys from N'Sync? Did any movie executive WATCH Spice World? * Speaking of music stars in movies, how about Mariah Carey? So excellent to see her album and movie bomb. * Britney Spears wants $75 for her top concert tickets...no, this whole concert ticket price thing isn't TOTALLY out of whack, no not at all. Thank God for punk bands and Pearl Jam. Hell for $75, I could go see the Bosstones at the upcoming Hometown Throwdown...ALL 5 NIGHTS! * The Spice Girls broke up...boo f*cking hoo * So Wes Borland finally grew something resembling a brain and left Limp Bizkit...now they have NO ONE with any musical talent. * And finally, Operaman ruled the other night. |
