Pros: Great reception and excellent battery life
Cons: poorly designed hard to grip and marginal sound quality
The Bottom Line: The phone looks nice but because it's so wide it's hard to grip.

When it came time to upgrade my phone, I was given a great deal. I was offered a brand new Razr phone for only 49.95. The T-Mobile rep said it would have better reception than my other phones so I figured I'd go for it. Before the offer I had never even seen a razr so I basically ordered it blindly.
After I ordered the phone my father figured he'd upgrade his phone as well and ordered the same exact phone. Both phones came in at the same time and to both our surprizes, the phones were unusually clumsy.
They looked interesting but we've both found that operating the phone was very difficult. ALthough it looks really small, it's really not. It's just incredibly thin. It's as though they took a standard phone and put it under a steam roller. The phone is very wide and people very small hands may find it hard to grip onto. Because there's not much to hold onto I've had a lot of near drops. So far I've been able to recover the phone before it hits the ground.
I figured to get a better hold on it I'd go buy a case. Because of the phones design the cases made for the phone won't stay on when the phone is open so there have been many times that I'd either come close to dropping the phone or when I try answering a call I'd lose grip and accidently hang up on the caller.
The phone has a lot of features just like some of the earlier Motorola phones, but on the Razr they added a few extra like video and camera. The videos are so short, it's almost pointless to use. The camera however, in good lighting takes decent pictures. To save the pictures off the phone you send them to your online photo album and then save them to your computer from the website. You can also send them to other people who have photo capable phones.
It has the Bluetooth feature for those who want to walk around looking goofy with an earpiece on all day. It's a good feature for "yap-a-holics" (people who need to yap all day on the phone without shutting up) and for those who need their phones for business. The bluetooth feature offers wireless headsets.
The sound quality on the phone is ok,, it's not the greatest because most of the time people come in too loud and distorted so I have to keep the volume down. The other problem is that the phone is so flat you can't prop the phone with your shoulder. If you allow the earpiece to slide even slightly off your ear, you can't hear anything unlike other phones I've had. The voices also sound like you're listening through a tin can.
The reception on the phone however is very good. I can get reception in places I wasn't able to get reception in before. Other than the accidental hang ups, I don't drop calls nearly as often as I nearly drop the phone.
The button display is very shiney and because of this it's very hard to see the keys. They're also very close together. The other problem is that the phone is very laggy. If you hit a wrong button, it takes a while to get the phone to go back to what you're doing. The text messaging feature difficult because while trying to type with the keys you can't just keep hitting the button to select the letter. You have to use the directional button to select which really slows messaging down so I rarely use it.
I've had a lot of problems with this phone. Some of the time I'll go to charge the phone and it'll tell me it's "unable to charge" so I keep connecting and disconnecting until it starts taking the charge. The power cord is similar to a USB type and is hard to connect to the phone.
The one good feature on the phone is the alarm clock. But then again most cell phones have that feature so it's nothing really special.
It's a nice looking phone, but that's about all it really is. Just a cool looking toy.
