| gauldd01's Full Review: Netopia R3100 ISDN Routers |
The Netopia R3001-I is a small- about the size of a cigar box- router with built-in eight port 10baseT Hub. The installation process is rather simple with a browser based setup interface, though it also supports remote consoles. Sometimes it is necessary to access it this way as the browser wont display all information. Unfortunately, the menus are sometimes hard to navigate.
The Security Features are superb and offer a configurable firewall that can allow or deny outside access to specific addresses. Additional, the router allows NAT - Network Address Translation - which allows the the internal network to use TCP/IP addresses that are not visible on the net. For added security, you can use non-routeable address such 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x (these are IP ranges that internet routers will ignore.) Lastly, you can configure a virtual private network which will route all traffic back to a home office using encryption.
Overall, the Netopia's performance is excellent with fast reboots and great security. It's a top choice for anyone considering purchasing it!
