What more do you want?

Background My problem was simple. It was August 2005. I am a college student, and my only telephone was a Cingular cell phone. My family uses Cingular, so calls to them are free, but I always cringed when I needed to make a call - ...

Yes, all calls will go to voicemail if your Vonage phone is unable to ring, unless you setup emergency call forwarding. This allows Vonage to forward calls to another landline or a cell phone should your line be down for one reason or another (internet or power outage, etc.).

Hi again!

I actually have one more question: if your modem is off, or if your cable connection has problems of any sort, do your phone calls automatically go to Voice Mail?

Thanks for your answers!

Ok, I'll do my best to address your concerns.

1) Your modem does need to stay on. The Vonage telephone adapter is what connects your modem to your phone, so without the modem on, you have no telephone service. Note, though, that this does not require your computer to be on.

2) I have never noticed a decline in voice quality or data transmission as a result of simultaneously talking on the phone and surfing the Internet or downloading something. This is all relative, though. If you have "slow" broadband, I suppose it is possible that you would notice a decrease in quality, but I would guess that is highly unlikely.

Hopefully this addressed some of your concerns! Feel free to send any further questions my way.

Vonage and Internet connection (Reply to this comment)

Hi!

In the midst of all these one time reviewers knocking down or praising Vonage (and consequently, providing a doubtful service to readers), it's nice to read something actually helpful (well, very helpful in your case!).

I was curious to know just a couple of things:
1- does your modem have to stay always on in order for it to work?
2- how does Vonage impact your Internet performance? is there a difference while you navigate if you're on the phone or not?

Thanks!

Thanks for your support, Melissa. It's unfortunate to see people knock my review like this. The best I can do is share my experience with you, for better or worse. I have only good things to say about Vonage, and my review should not be discriminated against for being positive in a sea of negative reviews.

Is it really fair to rate someone else's positive review Not Helpful just because of your own bad experience with Vonage?

While you may not agree with this member's rating of this store, Epinions rating guidelines suggest we rate on the content and helpfulness of a review and not if we agree or disagree personally with the writer's opinion.

I usually read a lot of reviews where customer's complain about Vonage, you've shed a different perspective on this company.
