| Steelfan's Full Review: Dawn Direct Foam Dishwashing Detergent |
When my Wife and I first were married, we both hated doing dishes. We lived in an older smaller house and there was no way to install a dishwasher. One of our first appliance purchases for the new house was going to be a dishwasher and it was. The problem with that is there are many cooking items that still need to be hand-washed. Pots, pans, some plastic containers, cutting knives, and too many other things to mention still need to be washed the old fashioned way. Many of these items are the most grease, dirty cooking items that you will run across. Until a few months ago, cleaning these items was a big chore especially when make large meals on holidays and such. Most times I would have to empty and refill the sink with new soapy water several times to insure that there was no greasy film left behind. One day my Wife brought home Dawn Direct Foam Dishwashing Detergent and things changed forever. The claims that this product made about cutting grease and the way it was supposed to work was simply incredible and true.
A Little Bottle Goes A Long Way.
The bottle that we currently are using is 13.5 oz and is the Fresh Rapids scent. This bottle is about 3 1/2 wide by 8.1/2 high by 2 1/2 and weighs about one pound. The pump on the top of the bottle causes the soap to foam as it is coming out of the top. This is very important since it allows you not only add soap to your dishwater without adding more water but allows you to directly pump the soap onto your dish cloth/brush or the item that you are cleaning. The claims on the bottle and in product information are as follows: Absorbs 10 times more grease and "250 pumps from this 13.5 oz bottle. These claims are important and in my opinion accurate. Dawn Direct Foam also comes in two other scents (Citrus Kick and Lime Surge) and there is a larger 30.9 oz sized refill available. The top also turns to the left so it can be locked if need be. As of today there is still a printable $1 off coupon on the Dawn Direct Foam website.

Our Experience.
Using Dawn Direct Foam is a pleasant and easy way of cleaning dishes and some other kitchen items. We use a damp cloth and a small amount of this foam to clean our ceramic stovetop and kitchen countertop after which drying it with a paper towel. It also works especially well on my Wifes new passion which is cast iron enamelcoated cookware. She has been cooking with her Staub and Le Creuset Dutch Ovens almost exclusively. This cookware is tough to clean and Dawn Direct Foam does an excellent job with them. We also use nothing else at this point to wash dishes in our house. Depending on the amount of dishes and the grime left on them after rinsing, we use one of three ways to clean our everyday dishes.
Method one: For normal amounts of dishes, we add two pumps of Dawn Direct Foam to a small amount of water in the sink. As you rinse dishes and the water fills the sink with more water another pump may be necessary. This method works well with most non-greasy dishes and even one or two less greasy pans.
Method two: For extremely greasy pots and pans, we either pump Dawn Direct Foam onto the greasy item or onto a cloth or dish-washing brush. We use mainly brushes in our house to help get those cooked on food particles. Adding Dawn Direct Foam to the pan gives instant results and eliminates grease almost on contact. Using this foam on a brush or cloth can allow you to clean multiple pots and pans with a pump or two of Dawn Direct Foam. We was very pleased with both of these applications for single or multiple greasy pan cleaning between dish-washing tasks.
Method three: Is a combination of both methods. Starting with a pump or two in a small amount of water then adding a pump to your pan or cloth/brush as needed. We mainly need to use both methods when we have large meals and a mound of unclean dishes.
Summary
All in all the claims that this product makes are very hard to deny. Dawn Direct Foam does cut grease on dishes, stove and counter tops better then any product that we have used. The ability to have instant foam without adding water lets you clean the item without diluting the soap's cleaning power. I believe that this simple fact is the real reason why Dawn Direct Foam works so well. The 250 pump claim while hard to keep track of, is well within reason in our experience. We are very pleased with this dish-washing product and so will you be.
