The Bottom Line If you use Netscape 6 as your browser, then this is the first search engine you should use. The search results load much faster in Netscape than Internet Explorer.

Netscape isn't a monster search engine like Yahoo or Google, but for quick searches without thousands of hits, Netscape is your best bet. An understanding of bolien language makes Netscape even more effective. But please beware, Netscape isn't in the same league as the bigger search engines. Ranking hits is a major job that a search engine does. This is done with what is known as META-Tags and META-keywords. A search engine will send what is known as "spiders" into a web site to read these "tags" and "keywords." The more "tags" and "keywords" that match your search, the higher the site ranks. Make no mistake, big bucks are spent on writing META-tags and META-keywords to bring a site higher up in any given search. A site listed in the top 10 in a search gets more hits than one listed on page 10 of the same search.
Many sites will spam the "tags" and "keywords" (repeating the same words over and over) to make more words match on a search, thus bringing it up higher in the search. HotBot, Excite, Google and many other search engines will not list the site if it spams. However, Netscape doesn't seem to care. This is a big draw back for Netscape. It makes reading the summery under the hit confusing. I don't know about you, but if the summery doesn't sound like what I am looking for, then it doesn't matter how high the site ranks on the search.
