Call me lucky (Reply to this comment)
by eseterik
As soon as I heard that this trash was being released unto the world, I went into defense mode. That was no chance in hell that I was going to hear this great song butchered. To this day, I have never had to hear this disgrace of a cover.
Great review. Thanks for legitimizing my fears.

Perhaps one of the worst covers I heard (Reply to this comment)

I couldn't agree with you more brotherman. When I heard their version of "Lady Marmalade", I thought it was downright awful. To say it sounded like sh*t would be an understatement, and the people who were responsible for that worthless piece of garbage should be shot for it...

...when I can VH a review that trashes a song I love. You supported all your points quite well, and I can't fault your reasoning at all. So, my enjoyment of the song aside, great job!

Great Review Man... (Reply to this comment)

I loved your comment on comparing Dee Snider (Christina) to a female Michael Bolton which was hilarious. That is an awful remake. None of those women have anything to offer in the future. Especially Dee Snider.

It's Your World... (Reply to this comment)

so I'll defer-- somewhat, that is.
However, though you rocked this review, even sounded a little like you coulda even been there witnessin' firsthand the hottness of LaBelle back in '74-'76, you are wronging these girls. Though they're no Patti Labelle and her girls (then again, who could be?), they're not exactly dogs either.
Ever wonder how hard it is to harmonize? Now, take these 4 ladies who've never sang with anyone else (unless you count Mya and Lil Kim 'guestin' other bands/acts) who find themselves blo'in together on a Labelle classic. I'd say, as someone who's jam'd the ladies LaBelle on first cuts, live appearances on the likes of Soul Train Saturday Night live performances, and in concert, they're not that bad. In fact, I've heard worse... much, much worse. Britney, Mandy, and even homegirl Jessica I don't think could have hung here. I don't believe Misdemeanor would have even been motivated to 'hawk' an act containing the aforementioned three.
In fact, I really don't think my girl Ms. Jackson could have added anything of more substance. So, Robert, my brotherman, why don't you cut the ladies some slack? Remember, not every one can be Patti, right?

I agree! (Reply to this comment)

I agree with your assessment of the soulless remake of "Lady Marmalade"--it is lame, dull, arrogant, and shameless. The original version had lots of hooks--this new version is a snoozefest.

Please, tell me how (Reply to this comment)

you reeeally feel! I'm not a Pattie fan nor am I a Christina fan, they are both screamers to me, sorry...my opinion. As for her "quote", I saw her watching the video on some Entertainment show and she said the opposite on there. She thought they did a great job and she bragged about Christina's voice...Great job as always getting your views across. Jen

I was with ya until ya butchered my girl Pink. I think her and Mya are the two best voices on the song.

Right on... (Reply to this comment)

...at least most teenybopper acts stick to covering songs that were already sub standard in the first place (behold the giant tide of Bee Gees and Richard Marx covers).
One question, though: isn't the original "Lady Marmalade" generally considered a Disco song? And don't you hate *all* Disco? Don't get me wrong, I dig LaBelle...just curious.
