The Bottom Line This is the spot for traditional American Cuisine when in the Echo Park vicinity

Located up the street from Echo Park Lake as well as being across the street from TAIX Restaurant is a family style restaurant known as Brite Spot. This is situated on Sunset Boulevard with the nearest major cross street being Alvarado. Brite Spot is between Hollywood and Downtown nestled in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles is under ten minutes away with Dodger Stadium being even closer to this eatery. Glendale Boulevard and the 2 Freeway are relatively close to Brite Spot plus the Hollywood Freeway known as the 101.

I have driven past Brite Spot for three years before actually venturing inside twice in the last month. I always noticed police cars in the lot so figured it must be good food for the LAPD to be here so often. Brite Spot serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with daily specials.

The menu is quite extensive for what I would call a family style diner atmosphere. There is a counter for individual seating as well as booths on both sides of the Restaurant. There are highchairs for babies to sit at the table for families. The booths can sit from two to four people. Each time Lee and I have stopped into Brite Spot we have chosen our own seats and been served water by one of the wait staff. I have opted for Root Beer while Lee has picked Iced Tea for both occasions. We are given unlimited refills on our drinks as well.

There are soups and salads plus sandwiches and burgers on the menu. The dinners come with a choice of soup or salad. The first time we went I picked the salad since I did not like the choice for soup and gave the salad to Lee. I ordered last night and the first time we went the Veal Parmesan with Spaghetti and garlic toast. My entrée comes with tomato sauce on top of the Veal with the Spaghetti underneath. I had to ask for parmesan cheese to shake on top of my dish. There is so much food on this plate that I have not finished it either time. The first visit I could not make up my mind between the Chicken and Veal Parmesan and asked the waitress who indicated Veal was better.

The soup last night was Lentil so I passed on that and the salad. Lee had the Caesar Salad with the dressing brought prior to the food arriving. At first I thought the waitress was bringing a small cup of soup for him. There was plenty of ham and turkey on his salad plus the tomato and pickles and lettuce. They do serve french fries and onion rings as the side dishes with the burgers and sandwiches.

Brite Spot also serves a patty melt that I will try upon my next visit as well as Root Beer Floats and milkshakes. The dinners range in the price range of eight to ten dollars with the sandwiches about six to seven. The entrees include Pork, Meatloaf, Liver, Ham, Chicken and Fish. There are a few items listed under South of the Border but the majority of the customers were American and dining on customary dishes.

The service is on the slow side and we have had to request the check both times, although most of the patrons seem to be eating leisurely and not in a hurry. We have never stayed for dessert but they serve pies and cakes plus ice cream. One page of the menu is for breakfast and the rest is lunch and dinner items.

This is in a small part of Los Angeles that still uses the 213 area code so the phone number is correct. My knife was a bit dirty and I left it out for the waitress to take but she never noticed it and at first tried to place the salad in front of me instead of Lee when our meals arrived. The parking is limited to the side of the Restaurant with a few in front. Each time we have visited Brite Spot has been during the dinner hour with no wait for seating and out in under an hour.
