The Bottom Line This is one of my favorite memories of Mark. I hope that we can all smile from his humor.

I had a few people tell me they would like some stories about Mark. Here is my favorite one.

In Christmas past my husband's(clubber 63366) ex wife would send cookies home with my step children (Brett and Molly) . Now it was fine for her to send a few cookies home with them but she would send dozens and dozens of cookies. Call it jealously or my domain but I got tired of seeing those cookies laying around my house. Every year my mother in law and I spend hours making cookies of our own. I really didn't want those cookies in my house. So I threw them all away. Just tossed every last one in the garbage. I knew I was being ornery but it felt good. On christmas eve we had Mikes parents and his brother (Mark) over for a buffet dinner before midnight mass. My parents and brothers live in Florida and were not up with us in Missouri yet. We were all enjoying the warm christmas ambiance. The tree was bright. The stockings were all hung. We had presents under the tree. The carols were being sung. During the middle of dinner Mark looks at me and says "So how did you like the cookies I made for you?" "what cookies?" I asked. I had no idea what he was talking about. Mark then said. "The sesame cookies I made. I spent hours baking. And I never bake" Well at that point I realized I threw his cookies away. I had to fess up. It was christmas and I couldn't possible lie to him. I mustered up the courage to look him in the eyes and tell my side of the story. I don't think he was very happy about it. He was half laughing and have upset when he told me he would never make us cookies again and if I ever baked for him he was going to toss them into the trash. Every year after that we joked about my mistake. If he saw any of my cookies he would take one and pretend to put it in the trash. When we found out that mark was sick I made him some oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies to boost his spirits. This particular evening he had his work friends over. When I handed over the package Mark looked at them and said that they looked wonderful. Then he proceeded to the kitchen and he seemed to place the box into the trash. His friends looked at him like he was crazy. He told them of the story and everyone laughed. Then he took them back out of the kitchen and ate one, and hugged me.

RECIPE for Simple Sesames
by Enyd DuBois

From Ladies Home Journal Cookie Book '83

2 cups (1 lb.) butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sesame seed
2 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds

In large mixer bowl cream butter. Gradually add sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Add flour and mix just until combined. Stir in sesame seed, coconut and almonds just until well mixed. Divide dough into thirds. Place one third on a long sheet of wax paper. Shape into a long roll 2 inches in diameter. Repeat with remaining dough. Wrap and refrigerate until firm.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cut rolls into 1/4-inch slices. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets 30 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool. Makes 4 dozen, about 165 calories per cookie.
