The Bottom Line I may be back to read reviews and check up on certain members, but will not be writing any more reviews.
I have been a writer on this site since December 1999. I can’t even remember when I got sucked into it, but I gave it a chance to help improve my writing. At first it was fun, educational, and even helpful when I needed to make purchases. An added plus was the fact that I could make a few dollars. Since that time there have been way to many changes. None that I couldn’t live with nor none that could make me stop writing. But now, in this latest development, (for those who don’t know, we will NOT be getting Eroyalties anymore), I am seriously considering quitting the Epinion community. It’s not that I was in it just for the money, (I would have done that when Epinions decided our opinions/reviews were only worth a penny a piece) but it did help. I cash in on the holidays and use the money to help out a needy family. Not only that, but I am addicted to Epinions and from the way it seems to be going, we eventually will not be able to write here anymore. When the money runs out, it will be just like Themestream, one day you’re here and the next day you’re not. I would hate to spend so much time trying to type up that perfect review, submit it, and then not have it read. I really hate wasted time! At the moment I am enrolled in a class to help me become a Writer for children’s books. This has been a long time dream of mine and Epinions was a place for practice for using words, learning punctuation, etc. Most of my reviews when I first started here were only rated H and yes at times even NH. In the past year, I have improved myself enough to earn the VH. I was able to do that by reading other members reviews as well as getting critical and helpful comments by the pro members. And though I never got more than 40 some odd people to trust me, I feel like I am leaving Epinions with more educational value then I could get from any school. It’s not that I would miss Epinions (I’d miss peoples opinions on future purchases), but I would miss reading the reviews. Just how long do you think Epinions will stay afloat when others actually realize they will NOT be making any money? Each morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., I sign on to MSN, open up Epinions and look for my favorite reviewers. People like Fragglemom, Suzer, Jo.com, Annexation, 29th_Candidate, Ajpenaldy, etc. These people are great writers! Reading them are like reading my morning paper! I go nuts if my paper isn’t here in the morning, so I can well imagine what it would be like if there was no more Epinions. So I feel like I need to go cold turkey and just quit! Maybe I’ll just gain an extra half hour sleep in the morning, or maybe I’ll learn how to eat breakfast.....ewwwwww! NOT!! Anyway, to all those people on who have me on their WOT list, I want to say thank you for reading, rating, and at times commenting on my reviews. On for those on my own WOT list, I say thanks for the lessons in writing. You were all more help to me then you realize! Some of you deserve more mentioning. Suzer, thanks for those great reviews on Beauty products. Through you, I learned a lot about Kiss My Face Products and look for them all the time in my Nature store. I just love their lotions. SweetCeCe, Sometimes your reviews made me want to cry. I can only imagine what it must be like to have a handicapped child. But I did work in a state hospital up north for Handicapped children so I know a little of what you go through. The last review I read of yours, was your child’s own handiwork in cutting his own hair. I wanted to hug you and tell you it will be ok and it IS normal for all children to do this. But I also understood your frustrations. Good luck in the future! Susidee34, I loved your reviews on the old time scary movies. I laughed a few times and realized I remembered seeing them myself. Movies was not one of favorite things to review, in fact I stunk at it! But hey, at least I tried. Fragglemom, although I didn’t rate your latest review (I would have if they had a Neutral button), I want you to know I thought it was rather funny. I never expected that from you. ptiemann, I can’t say I loved your reviews. Not that they weren’t good, they were well written and very informative, but I am in now way electronically inclined so to speak, so a lot of what you wrote was gibberish to me. The only one I believe I understood was the one about the police scanner. In fact, it almost made me want to run out and buy one for myself. Hard_to_Please, and yes, I know he will not be able to read this, but it was through his reviews that I learned to add a touch of humor to my reviews. When I first tried it, I always deleted it because I thought readers would think I was a fruit, but after reading several of Mark’s reviews, I found that people actually look forward to a few laughs. I took three months off of Epinions over the summer and when I came back I decided to try a different style to my writing. I was very successful and actually had 4 or 5 people add me to their WOT list in one month. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! 29th_Candidate, I had read lots of your reviews but never added you to my WOT list until recently. The reason I added you at this time was because you proved to me that not only do you write great reviews, but you are also a true friend. Not to me but to Hard_to_Please, when he truly needed one. You made his last days comforting and for that I am eternally grateful. Ajpenlady, no way could I forget you. I don’t know how many times I went to read one of your reviews and actually had to read them about three or four times to get to the info you were actually supposed to be writing about. Never have I known anyone who could zap in a story personal or not , to go with the review topic. You drove me crazy many a times. To you all I bid a fond farewell and ask for one very small favor.
