to be constructive. I guess I've managed to dance around the wars that sometimes occur. I intend to stick around to see what happens.

...and nothing to be sorry for. You do have a right to speak your mind about having the choice of editing or deleting your own personal writing taken right out from under you, without permission or a word of regret from those who have committed this crime.
Like you, I've been here nearly two years and have never been angered or frustrated by how Epinions chose to run their site. It is their business, funded with their monies, after all. However, these reviews are my words, my work, my creations derived from products and/or services for which I paid the cost to even have the knowledge of them to write useful recommendations (either "for" or "against") and Epinions should not be the party to say whether they are edited or removed and when, ever. Not unless they re-draft and have me agree to a contract stating as much.
Anyway, you deserve to vent on an issue such as this. Epinions never HAS to pay us anything. But, they should not have the rights to hold our creative works hostage, ever, either.
Great editorial. Haven't read you before, but I will from now on. Thanks for your venting. Take care,
Rouchelle

Just a comment..if that's okay. *S* (Reply to this comment)

Please do not take this the wrong way because I completely understand where you are coming from.
I, too was given the advisor "hats", not needing or wanting them initially. Since then, I am now a top reviewer and editor in those categories. Editor means I am to leave constructive comments if I feel it could help. I don't believe I have ever been snide, rude or cocky about it. I am just trying to help, especially when a member is new to the site.
I also feel a duty (if you will) that when a review gets a large amount of SH's and no one explains why, to let them know. When I first came to Epinions, I did not understand why I was getting low ratings, not understanding what the members wanted to know....
I'm sorry if you and other members have had unwanted comments left on your reviews, but I will continue leaving them because its a part of
being an editor (tho' I left them before I became an editor) The comment area is there for a reason. Of course it's not there for other's to degrade and insult the writer nor is it there for feuds to arise which I have seen too often.
But sometimes we are damned if you do, damned if you don't. I have had members get ticked at me because I didn't leave a comment letting them know what I felt their review was missing...
Glad to see you "speak up" for yourself and others. Best wishes to you.
Take care,
Karen

Thank you! I haven't earned much either, but did manage to put some extra food goodies on the table as well as some extras for ones birthday or two. A pair of new computer speakers and paid the phone bill. To me that was greatly earned and appreciated and totally fullfilled compensation for my work.
oh and yes! I did stamp my foot!
LOL
thanks again...

Thanks for your comment. I wanted to express myself too like the others. But didn't have it in me to get vulgar. And with that I am not saying it is wrong for the others to write what they feel. At this point we all have rants and raves and certain concerns. I have read alot of angry people and people trying to help them with the a ger. It is sad, but the management was wrong. They should have worked with us more closely on their decision.
Thank you.

You will make it through the fiasco by keeping your head up.
As for not writing, I would like to say, go ahead. If you make a booboo, it will be ok. Your input on the product or service is more important and others will be able to understand. Maybe hold off untill we see if they bring back the edit button. Then you will be on your way again.
Thanks for the comment.

Very well said (Reply to this comment)

When Epinions dropped the pay from .30 a hit, I pretty much decided I was just doing this for fun anyway. Besides, even at .30 a hit, I was never gonna get rich.
I did buy a new printer and computer chair and scanner with my Epinions money. I did get to take a few extra trips I never would have gotten to, but hey, for the most part it was just fun.
There were a lot of times when I just felt really down, and posting an article boosted me up a bit. There are a lot of good people here and I never really understood all the hate wars going on. But then again, I don't understand hate wars anyway.
Epinions may not let me edit/delete my bad work, but they don't own it. I have the original of all my work saved elsewhere and I post it as I deem fit. My work I post elsewhere has to do with healing. If they want to delete my account because I choose to help someone from committing suicide through one of my postings, let them have at it. It is still my own work.
Your posting was well stated, and I give you a big thumbs up. Hope you stamped your foot when you typed it, I could just picture that somehow (smile)
Good job

I feel cheated (Reply to this comment)

I agree with your points. I'm not as alarmed about the non payment for member hits as I am the fact that I can not edit or delete my own work. I have posted only one review since this change and it has a couple of typos in it, but I can't fix it. It is hard to catch every typo before you submit a review with the way the draft set up is. I like to re-read my reviews after they have been posted then correct anything if I see it needs to be corrected. They are saying that plans are to bring back the edit function, but I feel I don't be contributing much until they do. It's unfair we can't control a piece of work that we own.
Thanks for sharing your opinion I don't see it as a rant at all.

Nicely Done (Reply to this comment)

I too, have never written a general review. I don't know if I will make it through this fiasco without.
I only write reviews on the products I buy. I appreciate members who rate me high enough so that my reviews can be seen by non members, because that is what it is all about for me. Get the word out to people like me, who buy products and want to know what is good and what is bad.
Currently, I fear I can not continue writing reviews. I don't want to misinform readers. But without edit I risk that possibility.
And as you can see, I like to give and receive comments.
