Susie,
You saw this as well? I tell people about it and they say, "EEWWW, I'd get sick looking at those bodies...." but actually, it's so tastefully done and so interesting I'm not sure they'd actually feel that way really looking at this.

Your profile shows your location in NJ and Florida. Did you see the show in Tampa or Manhattan?

Thanks for the comment (and also rating so many of my reviews!)

Kel,
You went to the one in Atlanta? This thing was incredible. I bought the book of the exhibit because I know I'd forget a lot of it after a while....and I like to really 'gross-out' people occassionally that can't appreciate it.. ;-)

I had forgotten about this review (sorry, hope I don't end up in the exhibit now!)- I don't remember seeing the fetus in a body- and even though that sounds pretty creepy, it still would have been very interesting to see. I wish I would have gone with my chiro. friend, it would have been far more engaging than it already was. Sounds like there is a consensus nonetheless- see this exhibit!!

I didn't even know this was in the city and I have been to the Seaport area a couple-a-few times in the last month.

Sounds like a fascinating exhibit!!

Thanks for the tour.

Houston's Museum of Natural History has a similar exhibition, called "Body Worlds 3", and after reading your review, I was intrigued with the notion of seeing real bodies and how they work. I asked my husband to go with me, to which he flatly said NO! Oh, well, will have to recruit a girlfriend or two!

Cheers,

Regina

Rudi,
Too bad your daughter won't go see it. I think that while people may recoil at the thought of this, once they get in, see the exhibits and start reading about it, they can't help but be amazed. There are SO many students and classes going to see this. I did a search on this earlier today and found that the exhibit was in Australia as well and got all kind of critical raves and reviews from educators. If you can get to see this, even on your own, I personally think it would be worth your while (I hope you'll agree!) and I'd love to see you write a review of it as well. And I won't pay for your admission ticket if you disagree with me! ;-)

It just ticks me off that Epinions search engine won't return my review in a query so anyone on the outside (or even other members) can't do a search on the review and rate it. :-(

This is something that I really want to see. My daughter on the other hand won't go under any circumstance, so I guess I can forget getting the good Mrs. Xeno to join me. But this time of year (actually starting this weekend) I'm in NY almost every week. Now I have something to do during an off day. Excellent!

Rudi

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the comment. I think the curious side would be happy it convinced the other side to go...and you might even see in a real brain which side is the curious one. :-D

Sunni,
Cute...we were PURPOSELY evesdropping...actually even asking him questions as well. My son thought he was showing off somewhat as people started gathering around him listening to him talk to his kids. I wasn't ashamed to do that or ask him questions! I figure that whatever I can do to learn more is worth it. It was funny because while we outside talking to him and his wife, it turns out that my nephew who does computer related work for financial firms knows the firm this guy's wife works for and some of the executive managers that she works with. :-D

Hi Sunni,
Thanks for the comment. Standing in line behind us was a family with teenagers. The father, we found out in speaking with him, is a chiropractor. We spent a lot of time walking around following him and his family because we were getting additional information from him as well. He said that even in his years at medical school and training on cadavers did he EVER see anything as fantastic and as detailed as this exhibit. His teenage daughter (she looked to be about 15) was constantly asking questions like which muscle is the one that gets "stiff" when you sleep wrong, where is it that you get tennis elbow? etc.

My son and I were there with my brother, his two sons and my nephew's girlfriend). I know you can't tell by reading the review how much we all got out of this exhibit. lol!

It would be great if this spurns interest in science for the kids as I feel America is falling behind the rest of the civilized world in attracting students to the sciences.

John,
I had thought it was already in Atlanta! But if it's anywhere as good as the one in Manhattan, do not miss it. I'd be curious if there's any controversy going on about this before it gets there.

My brother told me there was a lot of fighting to keep it out of Tampa. But I heard that now that it's there and educators have seen it everyone has been clamoring to go and there's been over 400,000 people that have seen it just in Tampa.

Thanks for the comment!
