After reading dozens of positive reviews about Alienware’s custom built computers, I placed an order for one January 25, 2001. Now, after 4 months of waiting, I have yet to receive a computer in working condition from them. It took 2 months for the computer to initially reach my house; apparently the processor I had selected was delayed, though I received no call from Alienware to let me know. In fact, when I called to ask why their online status check was not moving my computer past the first step, I was told that because of how busy they were it was not being updated. When my computer arrived, the CPU fan was banging around on the inside. When I pressed the power button on the computer it stuck and would not come out of the case. I wanted to return the computer, but was told I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee, which happened to be $600 on this computer. After getting an estimate of a week for the repair, I sent it back to them. After almost a month of waiting, many calls, and many hours on hold, I complained and was told they would upgrade my video card to a Geforce 2 Ultra and give me a free game. I finally received the computer after 5 weeks instead of the estimated 1 week. The computer did not recognize the DVD player and sound card, the video card was not upgraded, and there was no free game. And to top it all off, after 5 weeks in their repair shop, the power button was still broken. I complained, talked to a manager who promised to upgrade my video card to a Geforce 3 this time and give me the free game. He promised to personally oversee the repair of my computer. When I called the next day I was told he had left on a week long vacation. Before my computer shipped for the third time, I called several times to confirm the video card had been upgraded and the game included and was told that both had been done. When I received the computer for the third time the upgrades had not been included and when I called tech support they told me my motherboard was probably faulty. And this is after being in their repair shop for 2 months! I am currently unsuccessful in getting them to refund the full amount I paid for the computer, and I am seeking legal counsel. I warn anyone thinking about getting a computer from Alienware, this could happen to you.
