| lorace's Full Review: Pledge Duster Plus |
I've long been an advocate of Swiffer® Dusters. I even wrote in the H&G Message boards about how those dusters have impacted my life. Well, now I've been impacted again.
When I read AmyK49's great Review stating that the Pledge® Duster Plus® Dusters are even better than Swiffer's,® I just had to find out for myself.
I bought the Pledge® Duster Plus® box, which included the handle and two dusters. This box cost only 3.88 at Wal-Mart. I also bought a box of five duster refills @4.26.
The Box
In case you look for it, it's basically lime green with yellow insets and white, yellow and black letters. There's a picture on the box of the extended handle with duster attached and a little bottle of a Pledge® Multi-Surface spray bottle.
Opening it, I saw two compartments. One held the yellow handle, folded down, and two spotlessly clean white dusters.
There's very little to getting it all together: merely open the handle and it snaps open to about 15 inches, 6" of which is for the duster. You merely slide the pretty duster down the prongs on the handle and that's it! I found only one end that the prongs would slide through, so I knew I got it right. Shake the unit a bit and the duster comes out thick and fluffy.
I love the handle, a pretty translucent yellow. It has a large hole in the center to hang it anywhere on a nail or a hook, and it is curved. Inside the downward curve, at the holding end of the handle is a 4 l/2" bottle of spray (0.8 fl oz.), which helps you in tougher spots. It's not a polish but, rather, a dust catcher. You are hardly aware that this bottle is there.
The premise is to bend the duster end of the handle down, it snaps down (sometimes I thought I'd break the handle, that's how firmly it is extended open). Snap it down, then you push the top of the bottle and a fine spray comes out, coating the duster. You can also spray it onto the surface you're working on. However, DO NOT SPRAY directly onto mirrors or TV/Computer screens. Spray the duster, instead.
Now on to the fluffy duster. The box tells us that "each duster contains over 1.5 miles of Dust Grabbing & Trapping fibers."
Now I was not about to prove the truth of that statement, the very thought of it was mind-boggling to me.
I will verify, however, that it is composed of tiny little strips and the overall impression I get from the body of it is sort of cottony! It's so pretty and white that I hate to grunge it up with this Arizona Dust!
On to Performance
This is usable on "wood, metal, glass, electronics + More!"
That about covers my entire habitat.
I told you in my Swiffer® Dusters review that I danced as I dusted with them. Well, believe me, I not only danced while using the NEW Pledge® Duster Plus® but I, also, sang along with the job.
That's because I didn't need to bend as much. I absolutely enjoyed using the handle, it gave me access to many places that need the extended handle on the other duster. It was comfortable in my hand and very, very sturdy feeling.
The duster head did a wonderful job in collecting the dust, and it did remove fingerprints & smudges as the box tells you it does. I seldom used the spray bottle, but it was neat to know that it's there for tougher jobs.
I've found that mirrors are a lot like television screens in that they are often just dusty, not dirty and in need of washing. The Pledge® duster cleaned them off beautifully and saved me another job.
Still singing, I went outside and dusted the car windows and the railings on the porch! Great temporary job, and I'll get to the rest of it later.
The duster caught on nothing and went under things with ease. The bookcase was a good test for this and the duster went between them and on top of them very easily. I also have shelves full of DVD Albums, which collect dust, too, and after using this Pledge® duster on them, they looked new.
Knickknacks? Yes, I'm loaded with them and they manage to get loaded with dust like everything else. The Pledge® duster was gentle, but thorough, with them, and they often smiled with relief to get that dirt off their backs.-
The duster, itself, got filthy in the process, but I recall the days of dustmops and/or feather dusters, so I don't throw the duster away after one use. I go out on the driveway, beat it against a post, watch the dust fly away into the ozone, and use it several more times, even though it's not as attractive as it was when I started.
Do I recommend Pledge® Duster Plus®?
Oh, Yes!
Yes, and more yesses!
They truly make dusting a pleasure and have corrected any weaknesses that I may have found in the other brand.
They are easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to love.
So, if you hate dusting, as I used to, get a box of these dusters. I doubt that you'll ever be sorry. I'm buying more because I like to have them in different areas in the home, especially my computer room. They worked like a dream on our desks and computers and peripherals. No office should be without them.
Thanks for reading my review, and thanks, Amyk49, for the heads-up on this marvelous product.
