Ever since I got my first set of non-stick cookware many years ago, I searched for the perfect scouring pad for cleaning it. Obviously you don't want to use anything too abrasive or you will ruin the finish on your cookware, but sometimes you need to use a little something to get off some stubborn, stuck on foods.
During my search for the perfect scouring pad, I found the Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad and was quite impressed by its ability to clean my nonstick cookware so well without scratching it. I use it on everything from my best china, to appliances, to my walls, and even my windows.
These even make a great vegetable scrubber, but I always am sure to grab a fresh one for that task. It is always best though, and recommended by the manufacturer as well to be certain to rinse your sponge well both before and after each use. You should do this especially if you use any product containing bleach, but I always prefer to do it anyway when using any sponge.
The Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad is a yellow urethane sponge enclosed in a white nylon and polyester mesh. The mesh it textured so that it provides a wonderful scrubbing surface that does an excellent job of cleaning just about any surface without scratching it.
Each Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad measures 4.3 by 2.6 inches, with the sponge being about 1/2 inch thick. It is just the perfect size to fit nicely in your hand for washing dishes or doing other household tasks. It is flexible enough to get into tighter places like around the rim of glasses, yet sturdy enough to last for quite a long time.
I have used these on all kinds of materials from glass, cast iron, plastics, enamels, Teflon, stainless steel, countertops, wallpaper, nylon, porcelain, tile, and probably a lot more.
I generally use one in my kitchen for about a week or so, then throw it in the washer and replace it with a fresh one. I am not sure how many times I reuse a particular one, but I would guess that I get at month or two of use out of each one.
The Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad works just as well in the bathroom as it does in the kitchen. It is great for scrubbing sinks, countertops, glass shower doors, the bathtub and the faucets.
I even keep one of these by my washing machine. Sometimes when I find a stubborn stain, I use my Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad to scrub the clothing. It has worked quite well for this as well as for scrubbing small areas of the carpet when spills occurred.
In addition, this scrubber goes in the bucket when the kids and I wash my car. It works great for washing the bugs off the windshield and bumper. In fact, I have used these to wash my entire car and never had a problem.
These work great for cleaning up greasy hands after automobile maintenance as well, and for dirty gardeners hands. In fact, I have not yet found tried any task that I could not accomplish with my Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pads. As I said, this is the one scouring pad I would not be without, and considering that these cost around $2 for a package of 2, you really can't go wrong.
