The Bottom Line A good place for those who love to write and a possibly good money-earner as well.

A bit of introduction

Once again, it seems that I have returned to Epinions in the least fortunate times. I can not say I am happy about these changes as for me being an alien it will be particularly difficult to reach 100 Dollar threshold. The incentive of bringing new people here is also gone (anyhow 2 Dollars where a good payment for it) and this type of earnings was vital for an alien member both because few people outside the United States of America knew about Epinions.com and because these earnings were not subject to the IRS payments of 33%, but this is a completely different topic. I will still return here and continue to write, because I like the place, but surely I began to look for something that could bring me more money and give the satisfaction of writing. I have found a place that suits the criteria quite well, and partly to lift the somewhat (and rightly) gloomy mood dwelling here among the writers I'd like to tell you about the place called WebSeed. Some of you undoubtedly have heard about it already, others have not...

What do I like there?

Well, many things. First of all, it offers the chance to write not only the product reviews (though you still can write them or stick to the style), but editorials and in the beginning you can choose the topic of your precise interest. It can not be a close subject one (say your own dog or cat) but it may be anything from international soccer or rugby to stock exchange trade, or from opera going to specific travel or health subjects. Sure, it requires more commitment than writing here at Epinions. Mostly because you sign a contract stating that you must update your content at least once a week. Partly because you really become involved very quickly. After their staff reviews your application and writing sample, you receive your site and finally you are able to start. Your tasks are to write editorial articles, search the web for links, answer the questions of your readers. You can also create custom pages almost without any knowledge of HTML (you will probably need only some basic tags) and without many ideas about web design. If you think you are good at it and have additional time, you can take more topics - many people do so.

Traffic is the king...

The statement is true for most of the sites that offer services on the web. And the WebSeed team seems to be doing a fair job there with traffic. I can not surely judge the performance of their sites in block, but I can judge my site's stats and I may surely state that for a site in existence only for a couple of months (and that should be understood literally) the traffic is quite impressive.

What about money?

Now, the key question of the whole affair comes up. What will you get for your efforts? They had a pay-per-click basic model previously but now they are changing it to somewhat more comprehensive and I suppose effective (for their writers and for them as the bulk is divided on a 50-50 basis) model. They have a feature called update. They will in fact pay (not excluding other forms) something like 30 cents per month for each outbound e-mail your site sends to its subscribers when all three slots are filled - that should not be too difficult if you choose a popular topic like health or travel. Though you are of course limited to one update per week send to every your subscriber. Now, if people were able (not excluding me) to bring lots of people (mostly friends and relatives and relatives of the friends) here there is every chance that you might get several hundreds on your list - again if you choose the topic of general interest. Here you just put yourselves in the shoes of the average web-surfer and ask: what updates I would like to receive?

There are also many other systems, like the possibility of partnership with Amazon.com or Barnes&Noble stores for affiliate links to books, films, discs and other things linked to the topic of your site, or even the possibility to write your own e-book or report and market it not only on your site, but across the whole WebSeed network.

Web Addresses

Now, how to find the place? If you go to www.webseed.com, you will find their search engine placement service. If you wish to apply, you should instead go to the url www.webseedpublishing.com where you can find the application form as well as the list of the topics they particularly wish to have filled with theme sites. But are of course free to suggest any topic you wish, like I did with mine - www.unknowneurope.com - where I write on the subject of the less known places in Europe. To view some of the sites of their directory you may go to www.webseeddirectory.com.

And in the end...

I would like to thank you for suggesting to the community another interesting site - www.mouthshut.com. I have also very recently become part of that one with the same nickname I think that it is really important to have this exchange of information about sites that give us the possibility and incentives to write.
