When we moved into our new house 2 years ago, we had to buy a new washer and dryer.
We decided to get the best ones on the market, even if they were more expensive, as we had lots of trouble with our old washer (Kenmore brand, another story).
We did some reading and checking and decided on the Maytag Neptune, both the washer and dryer were highly recommended everywhere.
Add to that the bored repairman commercial and we were sold. The machines are nice looking. The washer is a front loader and uses very little detergent. We were in heaven!
Until a few months later, when the machine didn't drain. Luckily, we had purchased a maintenance contract, and the problem, the drainage pump, was quickly fixed.
The repairman joked with us, that Maytag does not have its own repairdepartment, so no wonder the man in the commercial is so bored. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.
Yet another few months later, mold started to grow on the outer rubber ring of the machine. This gave our clean laundry a musty smell.
After doing some asking around, I found out that using bleach on it (and then run a short empty cycle), helps a little. It's a royal pain though!!!
And now, we won't have a washer for 2 weeks, as the drainage pump has given up again.
In light of all this, I would say the Maytag Neptune is overpriced for what it is. I don't know if I would buy the model again.
