Disappointment Inn

Written: May 18 '01
Pros:A good Continental breakfast
Cons:To many to list on this!!!
The Bottom Line: For a normal motel if you like to spend money for no "bang" its great for a business traveler it falls far short.

During the summer I travel a large amount for business all over the country. Looking for a "new" place for the weary business traveler and knowing how the Marriot corporation says the are there for the business traveler I decided to try one of there Fairfield Inns.

Arrival at the motel I was greated by 2 friendly desk clerks very willing to take my money of course for a night at the hotel which price wise is expensive for Counsel Bluffs, Iowa ($20 more then the motel right behind them) with the same exact accomodations. Going in a very small and cramped elevator I make it up to the 2nd floor and down the hall to my room.

Walking in the room I expected something more then what my eyes seen, this was just a very very typical motel room nothing to say wow about at all. From a small 19" television which is the smallest I have ever seen in any motel, even though I am not there to watch tv it would be nice to beable to relax and even see the tv from the bed. Trying to do some work on my laptop which I need to connect to a phone line for dial up was a project in a half noticing the only phone was next to the bed and on a end table. To get my laptop to connect to the phone line I literally had to sit on the floor between two beds now can we say uncomfortable or what. If being a accessible for business travelers is just having a iron and a ironing board they got that but to sit down in your room and work well that is not something that works well there at all unless you like to sitting on the floor.

Finishing my work on the laptop I decided to unwind in the pool. When I get down stairs and into the pool area my eyes were dismayed at the "pool". My son's blow up pool is bigger then what they considered a pool where if I recall right the deepest area was 3 feet deep. If I pushed off on one side I would almost touch the otherside before my toes left the edge (a little exageration but not by much). I have been in whirlpools bigger then this pool. Enough about the pool or lack of a pool after all that I just went to bed.

Morning time was pretty easy seings how the curtains couldn't keep the sunlight out of the room. The continental breakfast was fast accessible and had a good assortment of foods other then the fruit that was way way over ripe that you couldn't eat. And check went very smoothly very friendly people wished a safe trip and a good day and the typical thank you for staying with us.

"Disapointment Inn" is just that a disapointment in all ways if your a business traveler nothing was set up for a working person and the price needed to match the rest of the hotels in that area when they are offering the same accomodations.
