Time capsule in Room 11 (Reply to this comment)
by joev58
With the exception of the television and of course the modern bathroom, room 11 offers a peek into the past. The antique furniture and attention to detail is all one could ask for in an old hotel.
My daughter and I stayed in room 11 January 1st 2010 and left early on the second day. I had paid for two nights. We felt terribly ill at ease and wondered if the room was haunted. There is a faded mirror on the west wall as you head to the bathroom. When we passed the mirror we felt at every time the hair stand on our heads and a sense of dread. I did not say anything until my daughter offered her observation on this. I too stated the same feeling. It was the only spot other than the small coat closet in the right corner of the room that was terrifying. As you sit in the room you have a definite feeling that someone is there with you a very "thick" atmosphere permeats the room. Needless to say I was up the entire night as even though the heater was off the room was terribly hot. I do not perspire at night but I was drenched. My daughter elected to share the other (window side queen bed) with me and built a pillow wall between her and the closet. There were at least a dozen pillows and I believe 3 stuffed bears in the room. I noticed a musky odor in the room and of course it being 160 years old that was fine by me. The only issue I would take with this beautiful old Hotel was the fact the mattresses were hard. Other than this the staff was very friendly and the room was spotless and beautiful. I am sure as I am typing this review that room 11 is haunted, and that's ok, Ghosts don't kill anyone they just keep you awake at night! would I stay in this room again?..no, tough to ski the next day when you havent slept a wink the night before! If you are looking for an experience in an old hotel I highly recommend the Gunn House. There is also The Outlaw BBQ across the street and the food is fantastic and in large portions. Also the menu at Outlaws is HUGE!
