Unique Gift Idea for Young Children and a VERY EASY-TO-USE Website

My 5 and 8 year olds LOVE getting mail. What little kid doesn’t? When I discovered this service, and subscribed to it, I became hooked. It’s www.specialdelivery4kids.com and I think it is original and educational. It is a great idea, a great service, and great for the kids. It is a box, addressed to YOUR CHILD, filled with activities related to the month of year. Each differently themed delivery contains assorted crafts, stickers, stories, treats, lots of different things! (More on this later).
THE WEBSITE
The SpecialDelivery4Kids website looks a bit novice. It is not flashy and sleek like many new ecommerce-type sites. The font is basic, there are a few spelling errors, but overall, the site is easy to navigate and use and has many drill down menus to view.
SpecialDelivery4Kids showcases its product with much detail and is clear and concise in what it is (more on this later). The menu tabs move you through the site so you can get the information you need. There are 7 navigation tabs at the top of the site. They are HOME, PACKAGES, ABOUT US, HELP/FAQS, PRESS, TESTIMONIALS, and CONTACT US. Each one of these tabs is pretty self-explanatory. To order, click the PACKAGES tab for the step-by-step instructions. Additionally, there is an ORDER NOW button located on the home page.
And if you want to pass this info along to a techno-phobe (read:grandma!) then you can download a pdf version of their brochure! There is a download button at the very very top righthand corner of the home page. And just as easy is their toll free number advertised on their banner at the top of the page as well.
This member of Family Friendly Sites accepts PayPal, Visa, MC, and Discover. They sell Gift Certificates as well in case you are unsure of what you want to order.
www.specialdelivery4kids.com itself is straightforward and easy to use. The shopping cart is typical e-commerce fare so ordering online is easy with very few clicks. Items are well depicted with lots of pictures and the site has answers to all anticipated questions. The FAQ’s are very helpful.
THE PRODUCT
If you are searching for just the right, YET DIFFERENT, gift for a child, this might be just what you are looking for. This service/product is geared towards boys or girls, aged 3 – 7 (as indicated on the website) however, my 8 year old loves it too.
Simply put, this is box of art supplies related to the month that includes (taken directly from the website):
A welcome letter, identifying the sender (the first shipment only)
Two different craft kits with all the supplies to complete the project
Lots of stickers
Special Treasures
Sweet Treats
Recipes
Activity Suggestions
My daughter has received three shipments so far and all of the above has been in there, depending on month. For example, we loved April because it came with a pack of seeds and a cup to decorate for planting (among other things). It really got us into the spirit of spring! She loved it.
The prices for subscriptions are as follows:
1 Month Mailing $19.95
3 Months Mailing $49.95
6 Months Mailing $79.95
1 Year Mailing $125.95
There is a shipping cost as well but it is a one time flat rate and not based on how many months’ subscription you purchase. I believe it is $12.95 no matter how many months you subscribe to.
As I said before, each box is addressed to the child and contains lots of exciting parent / child activities as well as solo ones. The key to this being a great gift is the joy in the child when they get a box just for them. Oh, and the box is stamped up in a kid friendly way so they KNOW it’s for them.
MY THOUGHTS
I think it is hard to please children these days unless you shop at a video game store or a giant toy store. This is different. This brings the focus back to hands on activities and real mail, not email!
The product is recommended for children 3 – 7 but I believe that any child up to age 10 would likely love this. Included in the box is usually a personalized story including the child as well as an indicator as to who the delivery is from. I can’t tell you how much my children love this. It truly is a great gift idea from long distance grandparents or from a godparent or even from yourself!
I highly recommend this product and I highly praise the ease of the website www.specialdelivery4kids.com , especially for the hard to please child.
