This is my first scanner from Acer. I usually worked with UMAX or Microtek, but never with Acer. Let's see.

Complete set consist of the scanner with a slide-adapter, two power supply units, SCSI-adapter on a PCI bus, SCSI-cable, framework for scanning slides and films, manual on fast installation, user's guide, three CD with drivers, software (MiraScan TWAIN-driver 3.20, system of text recognition TextBridge Classic 2.0, utility for copying on the printer Copier 1.2, graphic editor Ulead PhotoExpress 2.0 Special Edition) and electronic manual.

The body of the scanner is executed from a light plastic and is supplied with a small flat cover. On the right on a forward board is present large indicator. From the right party of body there is a switch of a power. The cover is lifted up, is fixed in a vertical position and easily can be removed, and the construction it of strengthening allows to place originals of a large thickness. On a back board two interface plugs (SCSI), switch SCSI ID, plugs for connection of a power supply unit and slide-adapter are located.

The program MiraScan 3.20 has the window of a fixed size. With an edge of the preview window there is a bar, which can be graduated in inches, millimeters and pixels. At the left are located the lists of main tunings: choice type of original (opaque, transparent and negative), color model (monochrome, black-and-white, color) and quality (high speed or excellence). The significance of the resolution can be selected from the list or to set arbitrary in limits from 30 up to 19 200 ppi. Scale (from 15 up to 3200 %) is similarly set up. The possibility of processing of a scanned image by filters of a diffusion, increase of sharpness and blurred mask is stipulated. It is possible to use a mode of removal moire (50 up to 200 lpi).

For a fast selection of tunings the possibility of automated setting of optimum levels black and white, and also mode Photomagic, offering 12 variants of tunings is stipulated. The mode of batch scanning up to 10 fragments with individual tunings is stipulated. The active jobs are mapped as the list.

Connection of the equipment and the installation of the software have not called any difficulties. Only inconvenience is necessity of inclusion at once of two adapters of large size, which placed as minimum three sockets in the standard extension piece. Nevertheless rather large size of power supply units has the plus. When work they practically are not heated up.

The scanner is supplied with convenient inserts for work with a 35-mm film and slides.

The interface of the program is rather obvious (in the main window are mapped of all main set-ups), but window is small when large screen resolution is setting, in addition to is not stipulated possibility of preliminary scanning of a chosen fragment with the higher resolution. The batch scanning is conveniently realized, it is possible to copy, and also to turn off, not deleting from the list. In the window of set-up of curves the field of editing has a small size, that negatively has an effect for exactitude of introduced modifications. The mode of automatic selection of an original with dark images not always works correctly.

It is necessary to mark that in MiraScan 3.20 is realized a possibility choice of type negative film.

The fast transitions of the carriage of the scanner are accompanied by a noticeable noise.

Acer 620ST has shown good productivity (that, probably, not in the last queue is called to use of the interface SCSI) and excellent results of scanning. Especially it is necessary to mark quality of scanning of color negatives and convenient accessories for mounting transparent originals.
