We're all teenagers at heart....remember what it was like to be a kid?

The Bottom Line The bottom line is that teenagers are going to raise heck...so let them, it's just what they're meant to do!
Being a teenager myself, I know that the thing I do don't often make sense to my parents. But I also know that when I look around my high school, I see people with bad attitudes, with drug problems, the people that come because the law says they have to...but don't do anything beyond that. I've experienced much of this myself...but with the help of my parents I pulled myself out of this group and these habits, and today I can honestly say that I have a future. I guess what I mean is that somewhere along the lines my parents did something right...
1) My parents have always respected me and my space. They don't snoop around my room...even when they know I'm hiding something from them. I've noticed that a lot of parents around where I live go through their kid's stuff when their backs are turned. Adults who have problems raise kids who have problems, or at least that is what I have noticed around me.
2) My mom is big in the lecture department. This is one thing I can't stand about my mom. It's hard to tell her anything because then you get an earfull about what she thinks...very annoying. I know she only means well...but you can say the same things in about half, or a quarter of the time! And she doesn't always listen to me...I mean really listen to what I have to say. And when she does listen, she gets all these ideas...especially about the guys I tell her about. But then again, I don't really care...cause when she hands me the keys to her car, she's the best mom int he whole wide world!
My parents have always been there for me also. I've screwed up majorly in my teen years so far. When my parent say that I'm the one who gave them gray hairs, I bet that it's true! It's surprising all their hair hasn't fallen out from all the worrying that they've done about me! It's a parents worst nightmare when their little girl doesn't come home, when they hear the rumors about a gang she's been hanging around...or when their little girls gets that court date because she got stopped once more for all that smoking that you don't approve of either. Or what about when all the boys think they can get down your daughters pants?
I can't tell you enough that you need to support your kids, be there for them. You can't always be your kids friend...there'll be times when your kids are going to hate you. But would you rather have a kid that's same, and at home every night, or some kid who knows it's ok to go wander around all night, do drugs, and who knows what else?! I know I alway hated it, but I had to tell my parents where I was going, who I was going with, phone numbers, they had to meet the parents...but look at me, I'm not the one who's on drugs, I'm not the one getting pulled over for driving under the influence...and I'm not the one going around and getting pregnant.
Be there for your kids, know that there will be times when you guys won't get along...and keep your kids off the streets. If you care, that is...I've met plenty of people's parents who just don't care, and that's just too bad.
