Horrible in-store service, great phone service though.

I purchased a carrier at petco.com for my cat and received it via fed ex earlier today. I soon realized that the carrier was too big for my cat, yet the nearest Petco is a 2-hr drive away. I purchased the carrier with this "buy now, pay later" deal they had going on. Nonetheless, the receipt I printed online from petco.com stated that I wouldn't receive a cash refund, but I could return it to the nearest petco for store credit... which I planned on using to purchase a smaller, soft-sided cat carrier. I called the manager around 2 p.m. of the OKC store and he said I could return the item. I spent $25 in gas (to and from) to go to Oklahoma City to return this carrier, in all, 5 hrs of my day. When I went to the store, the manager had already gone home and wasn't going to return until Friday. I explained to the cashier and team manager that I live 2 hrs away and could not return and I showed them the receipt from petco.com that stated I should be issued store credit. They refused to give me store credit and whined about how they could get fired if they give me store credit. Needless to say, I was pretty ticked off, but I was nice and left the store. After I cooled off, I called the 1-877 number on the receipt and spoke to a customer service rep on the phone. I was already an hr from the petco store at this time. Surpisingly, the guy on the phone was actually nice. He agreed that I should have been issued the store credit since that was the store's policy, so the manager of the OKC store is supposed to contact me in 2-3 days. I will not spend another $25 to return this carrier (for gas prices), so I'm going to at least get them to pay for some of the cost to ship the item back to them. After this is settled, I will never purchase from petco.com again.
Update: June 6, 2006:
It's been a week now and the manager of the OKC store has not contacted me. I'm waiting until 5 p.m. today to see if that changes (which I highly doubt it will). If he doesn't call, I'll call the number I did last time (the 1-866 number). I'm not going to drive up to OKC again to return this thing (which, in itself, will cost me around $30 in gas since I live 2 hrs away from the Petco store). Unless a miracle happens over the phone, I'm pretty positive I got s*r'd over by Petco and I will never buy from their online store again. I actually wouldn't even buy from their store at all again, but I'm moving in a month and the nearest place to get petfood and litter (nearest to the apartment) IS Petco. When it comes to online needs, I'll stick to something like Petsmart. I wouldn't recommend Petco at all. I'll update this if that miracle happens. lol

Well that "miracle" never did happen. I never heard back from the manager of the OKC store or from petco.com. I ended up selling the kennel on ebay at a loss of $13. Lesson learned: Never purchase anything online from petco.com again.
