carzncompz's Full Review: Gillette Fusion Razor for Men
Introduction:
When people think of razors or shaving the name Gillette comes to mind. For the last 50 plus years people have been shaving with Gillette products. My grandfather did, my dad does and as of 3 years ago, I do. Even though I have only been shaving for 3 years I have tried several razors from Gillette as well as another brand. Although Gillette has several names for their razors the only main difference is the blade. For example, there are 3 or 4 types of Mach 3 razor. The handle is the same but the blades are different. As of about a year ago Gillette released 2 new creations; the Fusion and Fusion Power. I will be reporting on the non-power version.
The Razor:
The Gillette Fusion and Fusion Power are both the same razor with the exception of a vibration feature on the Power version. As with all Gillette razors they market a different blade for every razor. Both versions can accept either blade.
The razor itself has a silver handle with a blue grip, orange/blue Gillette logo plate and blue blade release. The blades are blue and orange. As with all Gillette razors a plastic holder is included which in addition to the razor also houses the spare blades. Overall the handle is very comfortable to hold and does not slip out of your hand.
In the package you receive the razor, a plastic holder, 2 blades and a small booklet on how to shave (in case you didnt already know how to)
The Blade:
The most important part of any razor is the blade. The Fusion features a 6 blade head. 5 blades spaced closer together to even out pressure on the face and prevent cuts. There is also a single bladed trimmer on the back of the razor head which can be used for detail trimming such as sideburns and moustaches.
The Shave:
I decided to wait a day or two extra till I shaved to give this razor a good run. As I always do I showered and then shaved. I began shaving my whole face with the grain. The shave was very close and better than the Mach 3 but I still had to go over a few spots against the grain to get a perfectly close shave. I always recommend re-applying shaving cream when going against the grain as reduces friction and the chance of cuts. The blades are approximately $2-3 each with a pack of 4 going for around $11 at Wal-Mart. Mine last about 3 weeks as I do not need to shave daily (yet ). Since the razor delivers a very close shave you may not need to shave as often as you currently do.
Conclusion:
Overall I found the Gillette Fusion to be a quality product. The main difference I noticed between the Fusion and the Mach 3 was the blade gave a closer shave in fewer strokes. I also noticed less irritation of my face, just as promised by the Fusion. The Fusion does exactly what it is advertised to do. Shave close in fewer strokes, over a less irritating shave and glide more smoothly over your face.
Overall:
Shaver Construction: 9/10 (comfortable and easy to grip)
Quality of Shave: 10/10
Economics (cost): 6/10 (expensive cost per blade)
Value: 7/10
