I received Febreze NOTICEables in the mail from the manufacturer with my promise to review it honestly...so here goes.
When I first opened the box, well even before I opened it, I smelled this product and was ready to toss it. It was just too strong an aroma for me.
Being it was a freebee I thought I would give it a chance.
Playing With The Senses
This is a product that uses heat to warm scented oil. My wife has used this sort of thing before but never anything quite like this. The idea behind this product is to let complacent olfactory senses get a bit of new aroma shock at regular intervals.
Many people notice a new aroma when it's introduced into the air. Soon thereafter they stop noticing it. Their nose gets used to it. This is especially true whenever I have purchased one of those hanging refreshers to use in a car. When I first step into my car it sometimes seems overbearing. After a little time I am no longer sensing the aroma in quite such a harsh way however, once I leave the car and re-enter later the whole process starts over again.
What the Febreze NOTICEables' people have done is made a product that plays the same game with you. It gives one aroma for a bit of time, you smell it, and then it may start to dissipate. The unit then it stops heating that oil and starts on another fragrance giving a different scent again. This process of rotating the two oils in the air regularly keeps a fresh aroma in the air at all times, but more important, it's NOTACEable. It really does work.
The Product
The unit the oils are heated in is attractive in its white-coloured contemporary style. It is made to plug into any usual 110 outlet. Inside the unit is placed a small bottle of containing two separate compartments housing two oils. The bottle caps come off easily and the bottle is placed into the unit until a well defined "snap" occurs. It goes in pretty easily as designed. My packaging came with two bottles. The first scents were Morning Walk and Pleasing Rain. The refill bottle contained Calypso Breeze and Hawaiian Paradise.
To tell the truth, I'm not one for breaking down the exact sense or feeling I get from them. They all seamed pleasant enough and fresh smelling. That's all I needed to know. I can tell you by checking out their web site that they have many other combinations of aromas too.
How It Works
Before plugging the unit in one can set the switch as to a high/low setting. This can be reset after use in a trial and error fashion to see how much is needed in a particular room. Smaller rooms or more sensitive noses may need lower settings.
The heating element inside heats one of the oils and then after a while switches to the other giving a perpetual rotation of the two different aromas keeping the nose aware of the change. A light gives a visual as to which side is dispensing the aroma.
Our was set on low in our living room that is basically 16' X 21' that has an opening on one side to our foyer and the dining room on the other. It is not an enclosed room. The low setting was fine for my wife and I could sense the smell when I entered the room. It was never overpowering. The first bottle lasted about a month. We are using the second bottle of aromas now.
Some Thoughts
The unit is easy to use but mine does seem to lean forward out of the outlet, but hasn't fallen out. I do have little children, one is soon to be a two year old, who visit so we have taken out the unit from time to time. They are attracted to it and though it's not dangerous on its own, I don't believe it's good for them especially because the precarious way mine seems to sit in the socket.
The Febreze NOTICEables method of playing with the senses by alternating the aroma works very well. I like the smells the oil gives off because it's not perfumey or too strong. It's simply pleasant and fresh smelling to me.
I did the initial set up of the unit. After the first was finished my wife asked me to replace it with the second freebee we received. She then asked me to see the package it came in. She wanted it so she could buy another soon. I suppose the Febreze NOTICEables people would be happy with that.
The most important note in my home is that when my wife is happy, we are all happy.
