Gran Turismo 2, the ultimate sequel

Written: May 21 '01
Pros:Best title in it's genre. Tons of cars.
Cons:Horrible graphics, tough to control cars.
The Bottom Line: Tons of cars, fun, long-lasting,Graphics bring it down.

Background Info
Gran Turismo was an instant smash to Sony's PSone game console. And it has now made it's way to the greatest hits list. Both GT 1 and GT 2 can be purchased for a reasonable $19.99! It is without a doubt the most successful racing game in gaming history.

Gameplay
Where to start...hmm well this time around the game is packed with features to keep you busy. There are many new challenges and additional cars added. The game is also very versatile, you can play in Arcade or Simulation modes. And, not for anything, it is a good way to test drive a car! There are hundreds of manufactur's cars included in this game. And each one was designed with great percision and detail. There is a total of 49 tracks that can be driven on in this game. That will keep gamers busy for a while. There are a few drawbacks in the gameplay area. I found myself using the brake constantly to make simple little turns. And most cars in the game are hard to control and you'll probably find yourself jamming your finger on the brakes non stop. When the directional pad is pressed, the movement of the cars are not smooth and solid. They are somewhat "herky-jerky."
Cars
Oh my my, get this...there are over 500 cars in Gran Turismo 2! That is pretty impressive, don't ya think? There are two CDs in the case because of the out of this world number of vechiles one can choose from. And nearly all 500 of these cars are officially liscenced giveing them a natural feel. So many cars to name, which will you drive the Viper? or the VW Beetle?
Graphics
Awe man, YUCK! There are so many jaggies that bring down the value of the game. Backgrounds are not smooth in any regaurds and do not seem very realistic. If your looking for great visuals in a racing game, this one may not be the one for you.
Sound FX / Music
Background music is fun and upbeat. A pleasure to listen to while cruising around or hanging tough in a serious race. Sound FXs are realistic, engine noises were done very nicely.
Future
Buy a Playstation 2 unit, GO..I SAID NOW! Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec will be released in late 2001 for the Playstation 2 game console. The graphics will be simply amazing.
