Thursday morning, June 1 -- USA Photo Nation has the best price on a Sony DSC T30 digital camera at $359. I bite. With 3-day shipping the order is $402.
Thursday afternoon, June 1 -- USA Photo Nation representative "Kenny" calls me to confirm order. Tells me I've ordered the replacement camera, not the "retail kit." The camera I ordered doesn't have battery, charger, software, factory warranty, cables, etc. That package is gonna be $489 including shipping and a free camera case plus table-top tri-pod. I'm on deadline in the middle of my workday, getting a hard sell from a guy who constantly interrupts me. I bite again after "Kenny" drops the shipping cost 10 bucks.
Thursday night, June 1 -- I get home and do some research. According to USA Photo Nation's website, the camera does come with battery and charger. Nowhere on the features page can I find the so-called retail kit and its contents. Other websites with slightly higher prices clearly show that they include all the items of USA's "retail kit" -- except the camera case and tri-pod. Now I feel like a chump.
Sunday morning, June 4 -- Since USA Photo Nation has been closed for a coupla days, probably because the sales staff is out leasing new BMWs with all the bonuses paid from their scams, I finally get in touch to discuss details of my order. Now I talk to "Pat," who sounds suspiciously like "Kenny." "Pat" is similarly disruptive on the phone, a brusque, pushy New Yorker who offers to drop the price $10 more. We discuss return and refund policies, because "Pat" assures me the order went out last Thursday. I end the call to do more research.
Sunday morning, later, June 4 -- After a call to Abe's of Maine, which took all of five minutes to determine that, including shipping, the camera would cost less than $420, I decide to cancel my order with USA Nation -- even if it costs me a cancellation fee, a restocking fee, etc. Principle of the thing, you know? This time, I get "Larry," who tells me there is no "Pat" on the sales team. He transfers me to "Kenny," who gets belligerent, asks if I want to cancel, and then after I confirm, hangs up on me.
Sunday morning, a couple of moments later, June 4 -- So now I'm pretty angry, and I call USA Photo Nation back and ask to talk to a supervisor because I've been lied to, don't know anyone's real name, and have been hung up on. "Larry" tells me no supervisors are on duty on Sundays. I confirm instead with "Larry" that my order is cancelled, that it has not been shipped, and that my credit card will not be charged. He confirms, and when I ask to go over the details of the cancellation policy, "Larry" hangs up on me.
Needless to say, I called MasterCard to inform them of a possible dispute, and to alert them to any charges that might possibly be made by USA Photo Nation.
If you value your time; if you hate dealing with rude, pushy, condescending liars; if you want the comfort of knowing that you got a good deal and were treated with respect; I strongly advise that you avoid purchasing anything from USA Photo Nation.
