The Bottom Line I would have to recommend my Tetra Whisper Filter system with carbon cartridges. Because it works great for me.
The main idea behind using the right filter for your aquarium is to keep the water clean. Each filter differs to each size and type of aquarium that you have. It also depends on what type of fish to gallon ratio you have. I have a 10 gallon aquarium. I wanted to start out small. And I am using a Tetra Whisper Filter with carbon cartridges. It works great for my small set up. I started out with no light just a heater and filter. So I only used artificial plants. But now I use live plants since I have a light. The live plants help give the fish oxygen and help purify the water also. I would recommend live plant for better health of your fish. I have a bubble curtain that also helps circulate the water helping the oxygen flow and over all chemical balance of my fish tank. I would recommend a filter that either circulates the water well or some other means to circulate the water. Cause everyone knows sitting water gets stagnant. So the more circulation the better. My nephew has an under ground filter system and it works great for him. His tank always looks crystal clear. He also has live plants and a bubble curtain. So comparing the two filter systems, above and under gravel I am not too sure which one actually works better. They both seem to work very well. Another thing that is greatly important to consider is your fish to gallon ratio. They say one fish to every gallon of water you have so you won't get your tank over populated. Over population can cause abundant waste problems as well as lower amounts of oxygen for each fish. So if you have a 10 gallon tank 10 fish is recommended. If you have a 30 gallon tank 30 fish is recommended..etc. Over all I enjoy my aquarium and love learning more and more about the care of my fish. My fish seem way happy and healthy so I must have learned something right. The best thing to do is to read, read and read some more. Educate yourself as much as you can before you buy.  |
