I was ripped off more than once on Ebay. A couple times by merchants on their lying about their products. The first time was not a big purchase. It was for a DVD. Ebay did nothing about it. The second one was when my friends and I decided to buy an audio mixer for a DJ service we're starting. The guy we bought it from claimed it was in excellent condition.
When we received the mixer, the first thing we noticed was that the product serial number was pried/scraped off indicating that it may have actually been a stolen item. (We couldn't find out for sure because there was no legible number) Second, it was a worthless piece of junk. Shorts all through it and basically useless for anything other than an overpriced paper weight! We contacted Ebay,, the mediation was the guy offered to refund 10 dollars of the price which was not much at all compared to what we paid for the POS! They considered that fair,, case closed!
Then for a time I tried my hand at being a seller on Ebay,, all I can say is where are the profits????
I sold 3 items at 12.95. My fees for selling the items I had listed were 9.00 Then paypal (their sister company) has to take their cut, I paid 6.00 a piece for the items I sold to begin with. After all was said and done, minus the cash out fee I made a whole 3.95! WOW!!!! Ebay made a fortune off my small investment and I made squat! Then,, watch how you list,, if you use one wrong word, BAM! They pull your auction and keep your fees!
Here's another way Ebay rips people off. Although they claim to try to stop counterfiet items, I was told by a representative from an official company of high ticket name brand items, that 98% of the namebrand items you buy off there are illegal knockoffs with forged credentials (aka authenticity cards receipts from stores etc)
Ebay obviously doesn't care that someone paid 300+ dollars for a 20 dollar fake,, all they care about is that they got a nice percentage from the sale. ALl they'll do is after the person has made their money, Ebay might suspend their accounts, but their usually back within 24 hours with a brand new account.
If you want REAL name brands, don't think for a second that your going to get the real thing for less than retail. For your high ticket handbags, go to eluxury.com, if you want Abercrombie go to their store, and so on.
Now to mention the good side of Ebay. There are some good honest sellers out there because I've bought other things in the past. Some of the sellers out there take their time to make a good honest business out of there. These people make the site good, unfortunatly the honest sellers ofen get undersold by the dishonest ones causing them to have a hard time with sales.
My good experiences were with the guy I bought a ram chip from. His product was in excellent condition and he had a great price. He also shipped the item very fast. Same with a few others out there. Just be sure before you spend any high amount of cash that you check their feed back first.
