Don't be fooled by their "low" prices by moore2772 | Jun 09 '06 A bad experience. Despite their lowball prices, they will not ship to you until you get a call pressuring you to purchase overpriced accessories. The batteries and charger they sent me were grossly misrepresented ("regularly $99, for you only $59,) This ...Return to opinion

A followup:
I gritted my teeth and called them to tell them that they neglected to send any paperwork about the extended warrantee. The agent was apologetic and did tell me how to register it through the Mack website, which I did successfully. I also took the opportunity to tell the agent my displeasure about the whole battery charger, etc. ripoff. He restated their return policy, but offered to send me a case or cleaning kit w/ mini tripod (retail value $5 at Brandsmart) which I accepted. Didn't need it, but that was slightly better than nothing. They didn't charge me shipping and handling again. The agent was not as nasty as others I've read about here (perhaps he felt guilty....) but the business model that Preferred uses remains unethical:
1. They won't ship until they've pressured you on the phone to buy extremely overpriced accessories that you don't have the opportunity to research.
2. Without your prior knowledge, they lump the entire purchase into one lump sum, with no breakdown.
3. The return policy that looks good at first is full of caveats and charges.
4. The company seems satisfied with angering its customers this way rather than seeking our return business. A good example of "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." There are some very good internet and retail merchants out there. Life is too short to deal with a company like this in a misguided attempt to save a few bucks. It's cost me hours of my time just doing things like writing this comment!

You described the experience with Preferred Photo, just like it happend to me.
Exactly the same bad experience.
You are better of driving to the store and making sure that what you get is what you need.
Total missrepresentation on batteries and charger that you don't need. The camera comes with a charger. Trying to return an item is a nightmare. They are pretty sneaky. They include both items in the invoice, in a single amount, so it is more difficult for you to make the return. Consequently, you would have to pay the 5% fee on the total invoice.
