One of my daughter's first concerns about homeschooling her kindergarten year was whether or not she'd be able to join a Daisy Girl Scouts troop. We were able to find one for her, and because Daisies is only for one year, we all decided to only require the Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic.
::: All-Purpose Uniform :::
The Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic is made of a royal blue polyester/cotton blend that irons well and holds up to a lot of abuse. Sold in two sizes (6/7 and 8/10), the tunic is a simple design with a neck hole, sturdy side ties, and two patch pockets in front.
The Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic is machine washable, and stands up to a hot iron (the Promise Center and Learning Petals are iron-on!).
::: Too Bad They Don't Have Them for Brownies :::
When the troop first decided on the tunic, I was a bit disappointed. My first Girl Scouts experience was Brownies, and I loved the whole concept of a head-to-toe uniform. However, the tunic was inexpensive ($11.00 for the 6/7 size, $7.50 for the same size sew-it-yourself version), and did give the girls a fairly uniform look without having to invest a lot of money for one year.
The best part of the Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic in my estimation was the addition of the patch pockets. As Beanie earned her Learning Petals, her troop leaders could award them and then stow them in the pockets, which were sizable enough to hold the Petals on postcard-sized cards, as well as things like permission slips I was returning, and other little things that five-year-old girls are fond of carrying around with them.
Our year of Daisies is over, but I'd highly recommend the tunic for any parents currently deciding what their Daisies will wear next year. Best of all, I'll be able to stow Beanie's Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic away for her to see her accomplishments this year, much as I stored my Girl Scout sash.
The Girl Scouts Daisy Tunic is available at local Girl Scout Council shops, as well as online at the Girl Scouts Online Store.
