The Bottom Line N/A
Well another month has passed, and with another month comes some more of my Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects in music. After my 3rd installment last month, I got no less than 5 emails asking me to keep this up...what you want, you get. *Hey guys, the new Creed album comes out tomorrow. Yes, such an exciting time.(grin) The new single, My Sacrifice is terrible, and the other new song they played on Saturday Night Live this past weekend was certainly nothing great either. Just because it's a "new" album doesn't mean there's anything "new" about it. *On the other hand, Sevendust also release their third album tomorrow. This is a band that has grown up a bit, and I personally can't wait to get my hands on it. It's called Animosity, and Sevendust is one of the best hard rock band out there right now, right up with System of a Down and Tool. *Alright, so I now have both nights of Pearl Jam's Bridge School Benefit performances...the new songs played were nice, but I dunno, there's something about them that just doesn't excite me for now...key words=for now. *I have scored tickets to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones eighth annual Hometown Throwdown. Even better, Catch 22 is opening up! *I read the review of Aerosmith in New Hampshire from over the weekend and my god, it sounded like an incredible show. Incredible show=LOTS OF OLD SCHOOL!!! I might have to find a recording of it. The setlist sounded amazing. *Britney Spears on HBO. N'Sync on CBS. J-Lo on NBC. Thank God for VH1 showing U2 live from Boston this weekend otherwise I'd go nuts. By the way, ironically, the show that is being aired (which is basically U2's new DVD/VHS) is the only one of the four I did not attend back in June. *Anyone know what happened to Korn? They release 3 albums in 3 years and then drop off the face of the earth. Not necessarily a bad thing, but kind of weird that they wouldn't try to keep their sales momentum going. *Rumors abound that the Black Crowes will be releasing a live album culled from the two Boston shows your humble writer attended (see reviews). Hardcore fans said it was the two best shows of the tour. Here's hoping... *Let's see...The Backstreet Boys release a greatest hits album after 3 records...can an N'Sync greatest hits and a Britney Spears greatest hits be far behind? *Speaking of greatest hits records, there's a ton of them coming out right now just in time for Xmas. Sorry, but bands like Barenaked Ladies, who have had maybe 6 hits, should not be releasing GH albums. *"We cannot sit idly by while these services continue to operate illegally, especially at a time when new legitimate services are being launched." That was the statement RIAA (which may as well stand for Raming Itegrity-filled Atists up the A*s) president Hilary Rosen made after the RIAA sued services such as Morpheus. Sure, legitimate services are being launched. All of them will benefit the RIAA and the record labels. Nothing will benefit the artists. The RIAA continually screws over the artists, and it may be the most evil entertainment organization in America. So I urge all you people to download Morpheus (free!!!) and find all your favorite songs. I then urge you, that if you like what you're hearing, support the artist...no don't buy the album, cause album sales don't really help artists unless it's U2 or Madonna. Go to a show!!! *Sorry, but Lenny Kravitz might be even more fake than Scott Stapp nowadays. God how I miss the Mama Said days. *So let me get this straight...No Doubt has made a "dancehall reggae" album? Sorry, I'm just not buying it...has there been a band with as much of an identity crisis as this one? *Tenacious D is opening for Weezer. Jesus christ that's a hell of a pairing. *That Ryan Adams song is so cool...I just have this bad feeling it's the only thing worth listening to on his album. *In a showing of stupidity, Atlantic has lost both Tori Amos and Collective Soul. Granted, neither artist ever had the "mega-hit" album, although Collective Soul did go multi-platinum twice. However, both always sold pretty strongly, especially Collective Soul, who has seen all 5 of their studio albums do no worse than gold. Amos could be a big coup for Epic, who already has sales heavyweights Pearl Jam, Incubus, Rage Against the Machine (assuming that's the name they are gonna use with Chris Cornell) and a whole slew of others. *The new Lit video with Mulletron is the best video of the year, hands down. *Excuse me, but when the hell was someone gonna tell me Smashmouth had a new album out? *Lastly, Sean Penn's new movie, I Am Sam, has a soundtrack full of music stars covering the Beatles. This includes Eddie Vedder doing You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, the Black Crowes doing Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, and Ben Harper doing Strawberry Fields Forever. Sounds excellent to me! |
