Just so... perfect post-cards
Written: May 22 '01 (Updated May 22 '01)
Pros:Beautiful artwork and words, original, simple to use, fun
Cons:New stuff is rarely added
The Bottom Line: Good writing, good art -- cards from Just-So are right any time, all the time, for any reason.
Yes, there are probably a million sites where you can send online greeting cards to people. Most of them seem very much the same -- birthday greetings and animated cartoons and goofy little songs. Most of those sites I can't even tell apart. So I don't use them. I use the few that I've found that are different.
Like just-so literary postcards (http://www.just-so.com) -- Just-So provides post-cards that include snippets from poems and prose by authors such as Jack Kerouac, William Shakespeare, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Rudyard Kipling, Anna Akhmatova and others.
The cards feature artwork from Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, images from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince," and many more.
Just-So cards come in categories like travel, birthday, friendship, love, cards in French, sympathy, and , but because the quotes are not that specific and you are free to write your own message on the "back" of the card, you are not limited to using them for only those. You can send whichever card you want for whatever reason, and maybe the quote that's used means something different to you.
For instance, probably one of my favorite cards to send from the site features a Matisse painting and the quote, And this was really the way that my whole road experience began, and the things that were to come are too fantastic not to tell... from Jack Kerouac. It's featured in the graduation and birthday sections, but I've also used it for anniversaries, no special reason, etc.
It's a great plus that you can write so much of your own message and make the card mean whatever you want it to mean.
When I want to send an online card, I always check with just-so first. The cards are so beautiful and meaningful that they don't need the music and animations. In fact, without all that they are 'just so' much better.
