Pros: Very inexpensive, similar to Pentium II, good quality in general.
Cons: Tends to run hot, even with a nice cooling fan. Could just be mine. Unstable.
The Bottom Line: Honestly, this is a pretty good chip. It's well built, but it does tend to run hot, so you'll need a nice cooling fan. I'd recommend it.

| chandlerbingco's Full Review: K6-2, 500 MHz (MPN-AMD-K-2/500BOX) Processor |
I was upgrading my computer last year, and I really didn't want to spend $250 on an Intel processor (I don't have that much money to spend, I'm a student). I was looking for something relatively fast and new that I could use for general usage. For example, internet surfing, software creation, word processing, etc. Just standard stuff.
The processor works great, at first. Then it tends to slow down a bit after you get all the nice programs installed on your new machine. This is typical of any processor, but the lag on this chip is slightly more than on a comparitive Intel chip. It's not a huge problem if you don't mind waiting an extra couple of seconds for some programs to load. Afterall, you're going to save about $150 over an Intel chip no matter which AMD processor you buy.
Overall, I found that it was worth it. It can be slightly unstable at times, which may actually be a Microshaft Winblows problem more than an AMD one, but it happens. It's not bad, either. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice chip at an incredible price.
