The $100 PDA

The Bottom Line You don't have to sell your left arm to get a PDA!
I have purchased 3 PDA's in the last two years for all around $150 each. The key to buying a PDA on a budget is this:
1- No top of the line- You can't pic the best features if you are shopping on a budget. My theory is that you buy the second rate PDA that has just been marked down. I bought my Palm IIIxe when the Palm IIIc came out. The only thing that I sacrificed was color. The Palm IIIxe is basically the same insides minus the color. You still have the 8MB memory, and the same features. Now you can get refurbished IIIxe's from Palm's site. I also recently purchased a Diamond Mako. This is a rebranded Psion Revo Plus. Same device, different stickers. But a Revo Plus runs around $400, while I purchased my make for $100. These are still selling, though they are hard to find now.
2- Don't be afraid of refurbished "Refurbished" usually means that "Joe" bought a PDA, opened the box, it was missing a screw, so he sent it back. The company then replaced the screw and repackaged it and sold it for half price. Bottom Line, don't run from "refurbished".
3- Shop around online a ton! You wouldn't beleive the prices you can get on a second rate PDA when you shop around. There are constantly companies that are clearing inventory. I often go to pdageek.com, since they list recently marked down PDA's in their news columns.
