Epinions categories...Nov 24 '01 Write an essay on this topic.
Popular Products in Books
The Bottom Line I cannot believe the level of ridiculous content in a so-called 'viable business'.
I recently wrote a review, and whilst most of my reviews are intended as informative, and on-topic pieces of work, occasionally the members of this site enjoy pumping out a bit of creative writing, however people seem to believe that Epinions does not condone this kind of evil behaviour. Imagine that!! Creative writing, how heinous of us!! The review I refer to was under the title in kids and family, "What you should know about Heavenly Hineys". I believe this category was intended for people to write about nappy products, but am only aware of this because of the link given to it...http://www.epinions.com/kifm- topic-Health-Diapering_and_ Bathing-Diapers-Background_Info-What_Should_ You_Know_About-Heavenly_Hineys. The again, I may be completely wrong. There are no details given about what it could possibly be at all. Likewise there are such enjoyable options such as "What You Should Know About Dancing Bears", "What You Should Know About Bumpkins", "What You Should Know About Diving In Israel", and my perennial favourite "What Are Your Best Shark Stories?" I ask you!! None of these things have any form of product description beyond what is in their links. Yet valuable Epinions members who write informative reviews about movies and decide to have a little fun at the expense of Heavenly Hineys get slammed. Why? these categories are completely empty, void of content, they are ex-categories, they have gone to join the choir eternal. In short they are DEAD!! People give Not Helpful ratings to things they dare not even write about for they themselves do not understand. Further, writing a humorous article under the auspices of one of these categories, one is accused of being un-Epinions-esque, and that they damage the site. The question I leave you with is this. Is it more damaging to an 'informative' site to have humorous and attractive reviews in otherwise dead categories, or the simple fact that there is something called "What are your best shark stories?" in existence to inform the public? Diving in Israel, Mullets, Buns, Fork Materials. They are all there. Can I really take Epinions seriously before it begins to take itself seriously? Thank you for attending my rant. Enjoy your Coke. |
