Well, like everyone, I don't know all the facts. Certainly, though, it could be agreed that the U.S should take more responsibility and action in this issue, since we are recognized as the unofficial leader of the world. The movie is a damnation, yes, of what's been done, but also optimistic towards the fact that this can be halted and that we have the willpower to do so.
You're absolutely right in saying that the world needs to work together on this issue and that the U.S shouldn't take ALL the blame: We just get more of it because we're more recognizable (Just like a quarterback in football. Come on, it's right smack in the middle of the season: I had to make the analogy!) Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to do that when there's disagreement in our own country over the issue. There will only be a consensus when the ice caps melt...
Thank you for the thoughts (And for showing that someone actually reads these reviews!)

hey there... (Reply to this comment)

you said...
"Gore pressed on the issue, though, and during the Clinton presidency was the major proponent of the Kyoto Treaty. The latter, which would put regulations on carbon dioxide emissions and greenhouse gases and even have nations engage in emissions trading (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_treaty), has been ratified by scores of nations across the world and even by various cities in the United States. The U.S itself, though, has refused to join in."
Perhaps an equally important, if not more so, reason is that large, developing countries (China, India, etc.) were excluded from adhering to any components of the Treaty while the largest economic burdens would be placed on the United States.
Kind of silly when the massive populations and burgeoning industries of China and India are probably now as much a cause of any possible 'greenhouse effect' as is the United States.
Not sure of the logic of slitting our own economic throats with an agreement that allows others to get away with economic murder.
Perhaps a fairer agreement where all countries participate equally might be workable . . .instead of painting, yet again, the US as the bad boy.
We shall see.
Very nicely done, despite that extended niggle above.

Excellent review. I've read quite a lot about global warming, but haven't caught up to this movie yet, and you manage to capture impressive facts even i'd missed - e.g., that the U.S. is that far behind even China, of all places, in gas mileage requirements. Which also sounds like it's what makes the subject hopeful: that Gore talks in detail about what's being done about global warming, and so many of the steps people can take (e.g., not buying SUV's, not keeping the air conditioner to cold levels) are so _easy_.
It is a shame that Gore's name will scare off a number of viewers, but i'm impressed by how many people - including you - are willing to give the movie a look, and to learn from it. May you convince more people to watch, and learn in their own turn.
cheers,
- Brian

Thanks Alex.
Never been too big a fan of Crichton's work: The movies made from his novels are always much more entertaining. And I know he's hardly qualified to talk about global warming.
Thank you for your praise: Always means alot to me.

Right, Neal.
Michael Crichton is a medical doctor turned novelist and movie maker. He is neither Dr. James Hansen nor even a pure scientist of any kind. He is a popularizer of scientific scare stories such as JURASSIC PARK, much more absurd than any distortion of Global Warming that anyone would want to argue about conceivably found in AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
Congratulations on a brilliant review.

Nope (Although I know Crichton is one of those talking about that "Earth naturally warms up" theory, which Gore shows isn't quite accurate in this case). And I don't quite know what 'Junk science' is, especially when a number of other scientists claim it's factual (Maybe if it was a presentation done by Dick Cheney about how fossil fuels are beneficial to nature, then it would be 'factual science', right?).
Oh, and thanks for the comment!
