Why would you want more children?

Nov 26 '01

The Bottom Line You just do it and enjoy it because family is really all there is!

Every time I go out with the boys (ages 6, 4 and 3) people smile and ask their ages and relatively unimportant questions from them. They then turn to me and ask if I have any more children "or is that all"? I smile and say "no" these are it for the time being, "but you never know what will happen next". Their mouths drop to the ground and ask "Why would you want any more children"? As if they were some sort of illness or a disgusting thought!

My answer, I love them, the present children I have, the two I lost before them, and the ones I do not know of in the future. Yes, they are a temendous amount of work. Yes they burden us financially. No, my husband and I don't have time alone anymore. SO WHAT!!!!! They are still the best things that ever happended to me and if more children came along then WE would be the lucky ones to have them! We'd tighten the belt a little more, hand down some more stuff and eat more hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. The best accomplishment I could have in this life is to raise a good family and I would die happy with a whole bunch of children and grandchildren at my bedside.

So when you see a family with more than one child (and you've decided that one is enough, don't ask with that tone - Why do you want more of them? If I have this many already then it is obvious that we love it this way and wouldn't have it any other way! In an age of loneliness, selfishness and inconsideration, coming into my house is the most fulfilling and loving place I can find. And I thank God every day (even tho under my breath sometimes I wonder when the day really ends). Nothing could make me change that!
