Hey, you did good!(irrespective of some typographical errors)I'm Reb, a Filipino citizen and I have read your essay. U know, terrorism will not stop unless sombody puts a stop to it. Terrorism is like a perpetual motion machine! Gravity (condemning it), air resistane(as in RESISTANCE!) will put a stop to it. I know im not one of the victims in Iraq and Afghanistan but i think the war is the only way to stop terrorism. Ur country and so mine is under attack, psychologically, emotionally and even physically. I hope ul reply w/ to my add:horebelliot@yahoo.com.
have a nice day!

I think the violence has already demoralized the people of Afghanistan. We are still not 100% sure if it was the Taleban who did it. It's good that we've scared bin Laden and the rest of his regime, but are you guys willing to go as far as to bomb the whole place? Shouldn't you only bomb the possible locations the Taleban could be at? If you only do that, you are already scaring the Afghans and they will run away in fear. The Taleban and Northern Alliance might be different though. They could easily be somewhere else, fabricating another attack on the U.S. I think it's merely just a case of getting bin Laden and putting him and the rest of the Taleban on trial.

Koudelka,

Actually, what I said was:
"The only thing that will actually stop his terror network, would be to send in covert ground troops for surgical strikes-- " which is exactly what hasn't happened. Instead what we're doing is bombing the h-e-double-hockey-sticks out of a bunch of people who have done nothing to us as a country.

Trust me, there is no love lost between me and the Taliban, and you'll find that the peace activists that you see now are the ones who have been trying to create an international outcry against this regime while the Bush administration was giving them aid. So, again, go figure...

The only thing that I can hope at this point is that the U.S. puppet government we set up will actually do something to liberate the 51% of the population that has become a virtual prisoner of the current regime (women). Nonetheless, it is still the innocents in Afganistan who are paying for the sins of the evil pieces of crap our CIA trained to fight against the Russians.

Elizabeth

P.S. I hold a Batchelor's degree in Political Science, so I am very familiar with the realpolitik line that you are speaking. Fortunately, much of the world has moved beyond that way of thinking, although our jarring out of that line hasn't yet happened due to a combination of our military and our economic might.

In a way, it is great that England and Germany are assisting. However, a few bombings would have done it. The ongoing attacks on Afghanistan will only make Afghanistan a bombed out, derelict place, and at the end of the day, you will not get bin Laden and the rest of the members of the Taleban regime. If you think logically, they're out of Afghanistan already, with a few still there standing up for the cowardly leader. By continuing the bombings, you are achieving nothing. All you are doing is killing innocent people and members of the Northern Alliance.

This is excessive and will only stir up more anger within Afghanistan, not fear. Members of the Taleban and Northern Alliance are both prepared to risk their lives trying to get the U.S. down. By bombing them as much as you are, you are only planning out more danger and starting up a war that will kill millions of innocent people who never wished to be involved in the war.

These are just my thoughts, and feel free to comment on the thoughts I've put down.

The key.. (Reply to this comment)
by Caprig
...is solid moral traning.

Without that, the violence will just keep coming.

The present state of the school systems and the attitudes of media worldwide is that anything good decent or Christian is tabooed.

Yet, the very rules (ten commandments for instance) that they prohibit are those that caused order and rule in the country for many years.

The love that they teach is mocked and forbidden.

Life is devalued to the point of murdering an unborn baby is considered fine if it suits the whim of the mother, and old people can be murdered if someone determines that they are not any good to them anymore.

Family education programs are no longer permitted to refer to marriage between a man and woman. They have to refer only to two men and two women or other "alternatives" as being the only normal way to go.

Don't believe me? I have a very close friend who is a health ed teacher and that is the law now.

It all stems from lack of moral solid family oriented values.

So, what many Christians, Jews and other moral people have been crying out for years- return morality - has actually been another way of saying-= STOP THE VIOLENCE!!!

Glad you got it out there! It feels good to rant now and then...

I would have commented yesterday, however, when I read this, I was at work, trying to take a surfing break to save my sanity. I'm so glad to have come upon this :-)

I'm just hoping in this country, a few people will listen to your words, and realize that what we're doing in Afghanistan is wrong, since all we've done is destroy a bunch of cities, and villages, and kill a number of innocent civilians. Osama & co. have basically remained untouched (really, did we think anything else when we began to bomb???)-- and, as if any of us have seen any real evidence (i.e. jury trial caliber) that he and Al Queda are actually behind the WTC destruction! The only thing that will actually stop his terror network, would be to send in covert ground troops for surgical strikes-- the bombing has been an act of terror in itself, and so far we've seen little of that...

Thank you so much for writing this!!!

Rock on,
Elizabeth

I did say that sometimes, violence can be justified, but think about it this way. In both cases, thousands and THOUSANDS of innocent bystanders are being killed. Sure, the U.S. has done little to retaliate in the past, but now Britain and Germany are getting involved in these attacks. Do you think it's really necessary for these countries to get involved? Or do you think it should be left to the U.S.?

These events are all built up because of the influence of violence around us. Before, people were not as violent as they are now. Do you think everything has to be decided by violence? Why not through peace like Martin Luther King and Gandhi?

I'm not criticizing you in any way. Just pointing out a few questions for consideration.
