I was a little hesitant when I first bought my fossil-Alek JR9007 because there is a large quantity of people that wear fossil watches. I love to be original, but it is kind of hard to be unique when half of the human population is wearing the same watch as you are. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little. The Point is that I kept on seeing people with exact same Fossil that I owned previously to this one. When I was watch shopping I wanted to stay away from fossil because of its popularity, When I stepped into Macy's there was this enormous advertisement for a watch that had every feature that I was looking for. It just happened that it was the Alek.

STYLE
This time piece is sporting a one and a half inch wide leather band. the brown leather isn't plain but it doesn't have any of those flashy buttons that many wider bands feature. Rather, there is leather lace that skirts the band; there is half oval braided lace that buts up against the face of the watch which encompasses an engraved pattern. Included on the band is a cracked leather look. the leather is not actually cracked but gives the watch an original manly "Crocodile Dundee" look.

To go well with the band Fossil provides an equally rugged look for the face. The Face looks almost like reptile scales that could be dark brown or golden brown, depending on how the light is touching it. There is a tiny date box and twelve bars that narrow almost to a point; each bar indicating a different hour of the day or night. All of these features are in a square frame of solid stainless steel.

QUALITY
In the seven months that I have owned the Alek, I have no complaints concerning the quality of this watch. The leather has not yet fallen apart on me. I have not had to reset the time, so I assume the internal components are working great. Unlike other watches I have had, the pins that hold the watch to the band have not come undone. There is a tiny scratch on the the crystal, but if your not careful, that will happen to most watches. I have only had this watch for seven months, I am sorry but I don't know if it will last for the rest of my life. but if it ends up to be like my last Fossil, it will last many years to come. My last one lasted five years before I got sick of it and sold it to my neighbor.

FUNCTION
I wanted an analog watch with a dial that indicates the date, the Alek delivered. On Months that only have thirty days I have to set the day ahead one day because month after month the box shows thirty one day. I like the analog and date box look because it does nothing more than tell the time and day. If I want to time something, which is almost never, I'll just glance at the watch several times until until my food is done cooking, or whatever I am timing. Split time stopwatches only served helpful when I was on the high school track team, but since I don't run track anymore I do not need that either. The simple set up that this watch has is sufficient for me.

If you buy this watch don't worry about getting it wet because it has the fossil standard 100 meter water resistance. I don't think very many people swim with their watch. If they do the chances are pretty slim that they will swim more than 100 meters under the water.

PRICE
I was very satisfied with the seventy dollars that I spent on the watch especially when a good friend spent $120 on his Nixon that is plain leather and has no date box.
