What's up with all the credit card telemarketers?

The Bottom Line Stop the telemarketing! You can do it!

Most credit card companies allow telemarketers to contact their cardholders. The telemarketers use the angle of saying that they are calling on your credit card’s behalf. I too have become extremely frustrated that the companies allow this to happen, but after all everyone wants the opportunity to make a little more money.

My stepfather has just retired and is home during the day. My mom, who still works a full-time job, has noticed that he has been receiving more mail. He receives packets of information and “trial” memberships for programs such as roadside assistance services and credit alert programs. These programs are over priced and with some research on our own you can obtain a FREE credit report and get a cheaper and more reliable travel and roadside assistance service like AAA. The problem with my parents is that my stepfather is gullible and agrees to almost anything on the phone. He agrees to all of the free trial memberships, but the person that is responsible enough to cancel these memberships after the trial period is up is my mom and this irritates her so much.

A couple of years ago I contacted each of my credit card customer service numbers and requested them to remove me from telemarketer lists. I have made this routine each time I sign up for a new card. The thing that I forgot to do was let my parents know and tell the world with Epinions and that is why I am writing today. The calls have stopped and I have been particularly pleased with the customer service of the Shell MasterCard from Chase.

The Capital One card recently began promoting their card with "NO TELEMARKETING". This is great but you do not need to change cards to stop the telemarketers. You just need to call and ask them to stop.
