I Personally Wouldn't

The Bottom Line To me purchasing a new seat is less work and I am more comfortable.

While the decision is solely your own, my personal choice would be not to. The car seat safety standards are ever changing, as well as vehicles.

My husband and I just purchased a new car that includes the anchor system for car seats, however the car seat must also have this system to completely secure the child. Luckily we ended up by chance purchasing a car seat, one of the first, that did include the 5-point harness system. Purchasing a used seat at this time would only mean the system wouldn’t be used.

I want the highest safety standards possible to be met for my son.

Also, I wouldn’t be comfortable knowing that another child sat, drank, spit-up and pooped in the car seat I would be using.

I am usually not a picky person, however I am more comfortable buying new items that are essential for safety.

If you do decide to purchase a used car seat, check the company website and figure out what year the seat was manufactured, with this you can check the recall information. Try to get all paperwork from the car seat owners as possible. This will give you information on how to safely install the seat and give you all the safety standards at the time the seat was made.

If unable to keep the paperwork, the information should be available with the company, however installation instructions are extremely important, and best to have.

Good luck.
