I've been a member of Blockbuster Online for over 4 months now. Overall, I've been impressed with the service.
As I'm sure you're aware, Blockbuster Online (BB) is very much like Netflix. With this service, you keep a queue of movies, and BB will send you movies from it based on the type of membership plan you have.
Over the 4 1/2 months I've been a member, I've rented 103 movies. Based on the almost $20 monthly membership fee (including sales tax of 8.8%), and including the 2-week free trial, my costs are about $.80 per movie. This does not include the 1 free movie/week in the store. If you include those, I've rented 121 movies at an average price of $.66/movie.
Delivery speed is awesome. I don't know if it's because I live in the same area as a distribution center (Seattle), but I haven't had too many problems. Let's say I mail a movie on Monday, they mark it as received on Tuesday morning. They mail out a new movie on Tuesday afternoon. 80% of the time I receive the new movie on Wednesday, 15% of the time on Thursday, and 4% of the time on Friday. There was 1 movie that I received two weeks after it shipped, but I marked it as "lost" at BB Online after 3 days, and they replaced it immediately.
In 103 movies through the service, I've received 1 broken disc and 1 movie in the correct sleeve but the wrong DVD was in the sleeve. 2 out of 103 isn't bad. And the aforementioned very much delayed DVD, which I think could be attributed to USPS. When I reported any of these errors (which could be done using the online system), they reshipped the problematic disc immediately. I haven't talked with customer service since the few problems that I have had could be resolved without their assistance.
The in-store weekly rental has been a good benefit that is not available if you're a Netflix member.
The reason I got BB initially was that I wanted to see the old TV series that have been released on DVD. I get new releases through the awesome library system that's here, so many of the movies I want do not have a long wait...unless they are just coming out on DVD. I've seen that a few others have commented that BB doesn't send out the first few on your list. Since I order older TV series and documentaries, I haven't noticed that. There was one time that my top pick kept getting skipped over even though it said "Available Now." That happened for about a month, and then it finally mailed. Not sure what that was about, but most of the time it's been very good.
I recently got a Netflix free 2-week trial to compare the two. Some movies in my BB queue say "long wait," and I looked them up on Netflix. Most of them say "Now Available" at Netflix, so I'm going to request them during my Netflix trial. And I'd venture to say there's some movies that would be a wait at Netflix but immediately ship at BB.
I think you'll like BB. The selection may not be as wide as Netflix, but I've had very few problems with BB. Since each service has monthly plans, you could even move between the two.
